About this listen
London, 1593.
Five years on from the Armada and England is taking its first faltering steps towards a future as a global power. Nicholas Shelby – reluctant spy and maverick physician – and his companion Bianca Merton are settling into a life on Bankside. But in London there is always a plot afoot …
Robert Cecil, the Queen’s spymaster, once again recruits Nicholas to embark on a dangerous undercover mission that will take him to the back alleys of Marrakech in search of a missing informer. However, while Nicholas hunts for the truth across the seas, plague returns once more to London, ravaging the streets and threatening those dearest to him.
Can Bianca and Nicholas’s budding relationship weather the threats of pestilence and conspiracy? And will Nicholas survive the dangers of his mission in a hostile city to return safely home?

Engaging mix of history and imagination
I've enjoyed all three of the Jackdaw Mysteries and hope there will be more. This third part takes Doctor Nicholas Shelby on a an unwelcome journey to Morocco in the service of the Queen's manipulative spy-master Robert Cecil. The narrative is suffused with the atmosphere of Elizabethan London and exotic North Africa. We learn something of the medical achievements of Arab medicine and about Morocco when ruled by the Moors as a backdrop to a pacy thriller.
Meanwhile back in London Shelby's friend Bianca Merton has not only to contend with a wave of the plague threatenening life in the capital but also with some dastardly plotting against her.
The narrator does a splendid job of bringing the characters to life.

Great series
I’m really enjoying this series and it’s easy to follow as, unlike other novels set around this period, hardly anyone is called Thomas! 😄

Outstanding
Great book following on the theme of Nicholas and Bianca in Elizabethan London and beyond - set against an exciting historic backdrop with masses of real characters - well done SW Perry. The narrator Kris Dyer captures the accents and inflections perfectly delivering the story in an excellent manner - thoroughly enjoyed this audio book.

Some great medicine
There was an awful lot of repetition which spoils it a little for me.mi I did enjoy the herbs and medicine having taught some of it in the past

SW Perry's Tudor novels never fail to entertain
Really enjoyed Kris Dyers reading of another book in SW Perry's Tudor Jackdaw series. Nicholas Shelby physician and reluctant spy finds himself in the perilous waters off the Barbary coast where life is cheap and a man can disappear into the brutal world of slavery
