Summary

It's never too late to start your life's big adventure....

Albert Entwistle was a postman. It was one of the few things everyone knew about him. And it was one of the few things he was comfortable with people knowing.

Sixty-four-year-old Albert Entwistle has been a postie in a quiet town in Northern England for all his life, living alone since the death of his mam 18 years ago. He keeps himself to himself. He always has. But he's just learned he'll be forced to retire at his next birthday. With no friends and nothing to look forward to, the lonely future he faces terrifies him. He realises it's finally time to be honest about who he is. He must learn to ask for what he wants. And he must find the courage to look for George, the man that, many years ago, he lost - but has never forgotten....

Narrated by Layton Williams, join Albert as he sets out to find the long-lost love of his life and has an unforgettable and completely life-affirming adventure on the way.... This is a love story the likes of which you have never listened to before!

This audiobook contains exclusive interviews by Matt Cain with gay men on their experiences growing up through the 1950s to within the 1970s and the 1980s.

Adorable story - terrible narration

It's such a shame, and a true disservice to the author, that the narrator for this was totally miscast and seemed horribly inexperienced.

Layton Williams is good too.

All aspects of this are so very good. Best fiction I've listened to in ages.

A joy to read!

I adored this audiobook! The story has your emotions twisting and turning throughout the book but the hope of love keeps you going. Layton Williams was a fantastic choice to read this story and was fantastic to listen to. I hope there will be more.

Feel good story of the year!

If there isn’t a tv adaptation of this book on my telly on Christmas Day, I will be disappointed! This character-led story has warmth, emotion and enough twists to keep you wanting to listen for that little bit extra every night.
The writer Matt Cain goes back to his northern roots to tell a story from the heart and the narrator does a fantastic job of helping you visualise the characters and locations.
Thank you Albert Entwistle!

Just fantabulous!

Just a simple but heartwarming and heartbreaking story. Wonderfully written in normal, non-pretentious words. Easy to read from a language point of view but thought provoking from a history and story point of view. And Layton’s narration- well you slayed it darling! Want a wonderful choice to tell this tale of heartbreak and love x

Beautiful, moving story superbly narrated

This is a really touching piece of work by Matt Cain. A history not to be forgotten and sadly all too relevant today. I love the way the characters' journeys intertwine and the interactions between the generations. The style of narration may take a chapter or two to get used to but it really does enhance the story and bring the characters to life, Layton Williams brings excitement, pathos, humour and empathy to the production and helps us to see not only the people but also the places he is telling us about. I had tears in my eyes more than once and that hasn't changed however often I listen. The interviews at the end of the tape are vital personal stories.

AMAZING 10/10!!!

Such a gorgeous story that really highlighted stories that never appear in the media, films or TV otherwise! Really engaging and I couldn’t stop listening and thinking about it! Also, REALLY loved Layton’s telling of the story, and his different voices for each character were the icing on the cake! Would 100000% recommend to anyone who is a sucker for a romance!

A Beautiful Story

This book is like a giant hug. It is beautiful written. The characters are so lovable, I feel myself smiling a lot of the time while listening. The narrator Layton Williams a does a smashing job, his lighthearted voice makes it even better.
Everyone should have an Albert Entwistle in their lives, the world would be a better place!

Good story

I really enjoyed the story and characters in this book.
Unfortunately, I don’t think the narration was brilliant due to emphasis being put on the wrong words and the mispronunciation of some words (this is not an accent thing, just incorrect e.g, advertisement).
