About this listen

Spellswords, Wardens, Traders, Scholars, Diplomats - the five departments of the Royal Institute of Magic an apprentice must master to become a full member.

Ben Greenwood has no idea what to expect when he begins his apprenticeship, but he quickly realizes his family history is going to make life difficult. On his very first day, a Shadowseeker - a mysterious and dangerous dark elf - surfaces, and Ben suspects the dark elves might be trying to capture him again in an effort to flush out his parents.

When Ben renews his own search for his parents, he soon discovers they are closing in on a piece of Queen Elizabeth's legendary armor - the only weapon strong enough to defeat the dark elf king once and for all - but it is guarded by something even more deadly than a Shadowseeker.

A race against time ensues, with Ben desperate to warn his parents they're walking into a death trap, while somehow completing the first level of his apprenticeship and securing his place at the Royal Institute of Magic.

Gives Harry Potter a run for his money

Excellent. Well read. Original. I was glued to it from start to finish. Set in the modern day with very occasional short flashbacks explaining origins of the institute. Likeable main characters and plenty of action. I leave a full review very rarely but this book warranted it. Straight into my favourites collection.

captivating from start to finish

i must say this book didn't start of as good as the first in the series but my did it make up for that. again Peter Kenny performs great and the story is top notch. I love the rest the books for into each other as well leaving you in a cliff hanger at the end of each one like a series should do. like with the first one my only annoyance is too many this person said when it's clear from Kenny's voice acting who is talking. I'm sure I'll get used to it by the end of the last book. onto the next book in the series and I'm loving it.

wonderful, though still following a famous bookset

Easily worth 5 stars for being interesting, well written and quite gripping even as an adult, however we are still following a book series that became a TV series reasonably closely. I very nearly gave the story 4 stars because of it but I'm loving the series and so I gave it 5.

A decent second installment

This second book was good to be fair. Linking up nicely with the first and letting the story flow for book 3.

Good but a little long winded

I was really into the first book, I am on the second now and nearly finished. It’s a little long winded. I’m starting to loose a little interest and find myself looking at other books to listen too. I recommend these books but only to those who have patience. Please Amazon, let us know the order in which the books are!!!!
