Critic reviews

“Klassen expertly infuses her … inspirational tale with a gothic atmosphere, resulting in a sweetly intriguing romance worthy of Victoria Holt.” ( Booklist)

Captivating story of love and family relationships .

Sympathetic study of life of a young woman in the rigid social order in regency Britain.
The uncertainties created by dependence on financial support and strict rules of inheritance, glimpses of tragedy and fragility of life. Happiness achieved at last in a diverting and satisfying story.

well written, complex plot, very enjoyable

I like the depth of the story, it was not a vehicle for multiple sex scenes, but a well rounded story with engaging characters.

Treacly

I put up with the religious mumbo jumbo because Julie Klassen normally tells a good story. This was not up to her usual standard. The end was nauseatingly mawkish.
