About this listen

The Forgotten Legion fought against almighty odds at the very edge of the known world - and lost.

Now Brennus the Gaul, Tarquinius the Etruscan soothsayer and Romulus, bastard son of a Roman nobleman, are prisoners of Parthia. They dream of escape, but in the brutal fighting which lies ahead, only two will survive.

Meanwhile, Fabiola, Romulus's twin sister, is caught up in the vicious eddies of Roman politics. Hunted by slave catchers she flees, hoping to find her lover, Brutus, bound for Alexandria with Caesar.

Ben Kane's brilliant second novel plunges his characters into a cauldron of war and terror, as Caesar and the Roman Republic hurtle towards their day of reckoning.

Authors passion for the period shines through

I honestly really love the way the author captures the period so well and write in Latin nouns such as scutum for shield. The story itself is a great continuation from the first and the performer of the audio really puts the same passion in for the book as well. Loving it and will be getting the third.

Great from Ben Kane

Another excellent sequel from the author. Great characters, history and narration too. Any fan of Bernard Cornwell and Conn Igullden will love these books.

Gripping and Fascinating

Have listened to this over the span of a few weeks and think it’s excellent. Ben’s writing is brilliant, the story is so detailed and has sparked an interest in ancient civilisations that I never had before.
Such an interesting time, and a brilliant story to listen to. Highly recommended.
