Summary

Some legends lie buried for a reason....

To fight extraordinary odds, you need an extraordinary man.

Under the fierce heat of the Australian outback, the laws of nature serve a rough justice. When a man vanishes deep in the Northern Territory, local police write it off. But his family suspect otherwise—and when the call for help goes out, Ben Hope and Jeff Decker are there to hear it.

Ben’s instincts, honed by years of Special Forces missions, soon see the story told by a trail of bullet casings, rumours of a missing map and a lethal cocktail of greed, power and money.

This savagely beautiful land holds a secret it won’t give up easily—and for Ben, discovering the truth will mean not only going up against a small army of hired guns and their twisted paymaster but also surviving a place where the wilderness is as powerful as the weapons his enemies have trained on him.

Critic reviews

"Compelling from the first page until the last, Mariani and his fabulous protagonist Ben Hope entertain in a gripping tale that will have you turning the pages well into the night." (Mark Dawson)

"Thrilling. Scott Mariani is at the top of his game." (Andy McDermott)

"A high level of realism…the action scenes come thick and fast. Like the father of the modern thriller, Frederick Forsyth, Mariani has a knack for embedding his plots in the fears and preoccupations of their time." (Shots Magazine)

Prob worst one

Really struggling with this one. The setting, the slow pace. Similarly to the last book this one is not to the past standard of the Ben hope series. Give it a miss and wait in Hope pun intended that the next is better.

Good read, way far fetched in places but good

Some reviewers have knocked this book for being unrealistic and they’re not wrong. But, what do people expect? It’s a work of fiction. It’s meant for entertainment, not philosophical reflection on real life.

I throughly enjoyed it - I also like books that are ultra realistic and reflective of the real world but this, well it’s kinda like Indiana Jones. Ben Hope saves the day, dishes out justice, and from time to time, gets the girl. What’s not to like?

Silver Serpent

I really enjoyed this listen, a good pace, plenty of excitement and a good insight to the indigenous people of Australia.

Forget Silver, this won a Gold.

Amazing story, Scott Mariani smacking the top note in my favourites once again.
I've read olive Scott's Ben Hope series to date and I have my own personal favourites. The Silver Serpent rates 3rd in the list beaten only by what is known as the African twin duo which still hold places 1&2.
Colin Mace has narrated all I've listened to and does a superbly engaging job of them all with this as no exception by a good few miles. If you like the story to come further to life then I highly recommend you give Colin a go.
Trouble for me now is finding another yarn to replace this one. Rest assured in Arnie's words, "I'll be back!" When I redo this one as there's always more that I skimmed over.
