About this listen
City girl Calla Fletcher attempts to reconnect with her estranged father and unwittingly finds herself torn between her desire to return to the bustle of Toronto and a budding relationship with a rugged Alaskan pilot in this masterful new romance from acclaimed author K. A. Tucker.
Calla Fletcher was two when her mother took her and fled the Alaskan wild, unable to handle the isolation of the extreme, rural lifestyle, leaving behind Calla’s father, Wren Fletcher, in the process. Calla never looked back, and at 26, a busy life in Toronto is all she knows. But when her father reaches out to inform her that his days are numbered, Calla knows that it’s time to make the long trip back to the remote frontier town where she was born.
She braves the roaming wildlife, the odd daylight hours, the exorbitant prices, and even the occasional - dear God - outhouse, all for the chance to connect with her father: a man who, despite his many faults, she can’t help but care for. While she struggles to adjust to this new subarctic environment, Jonah - the quiet, brooding, and proud Alaskan pilot who keeps her father’s charter plane company operational - can’t imagine calling anywhere else home. And he’s clearly waiting with one hand on the throttle to fly this city girl back to where she belongs, convinced that she’s too pampered to handle the wild.
Jonah is probably right, but Calla is determined to prove him wrong. As time passes, she unexpectedly finds herself forming a bond with the burly pilot. As his undercurrent of disapproval dwindles, it’s replaced by friendship - or perhaps something deeper? But Calla is not in Alaska to stay, and Jonah will never leave. It would be foolish of her to kindle a romance, to take the same path her parents tried - and failed at - years ago.
It’s a simple truth that turns out to be not so simple after all.

Out of this world amazing
Why did this book have to end!
It has been a very long time since I have cried while reading this book. Wow, Calla was born in Alaska however at the age of two she was brought to Toronto after her parents separated. Now at the age of 26, Calla receives news that her father, Wren is terminally ill. Going back to Alaska and meeting the man who she hasn't seen since she was two is going to be hard. Making things even harder is the yeti of a pilot, Jonah, who thinks Calla is a spoilt city girl who can't handle the wilderness.
I will admit at the start I didn't like Jonah, he was rude and the things he did to Calla annoyed me, however, I started to understand why he did what he did. In the end, he is actually really sweet and caring. He is passionate about Alaska and flying. You can clearly see how much he loves his job and caring about the people of Alaska. Calla also loves Toronto and her busy lifestyle. She is sweet and has overcome a lot of hurdles. I loved the village community and how they all care for Wren! I couldn't predict the ending which I really enjoyed. It gave the book a bit of suspense.
I also enjoyed the flow of the book, it didn't priorities the romance storyline, it focused on a lot of different aspects and it was quite educational. I loved learning about the Alaskan culture and wildlife.
Overall I highly recommend this book and I will definitely be re-reading in the future

So glad I stuck with it!
The often times irritating main character, the obvious storyline, and the spoiled girl voiceover had me almost rolling my eyes at times but I could not stop listening to this book! I absolutely loved it in the end and was very sad to have it finish. I miss the characters, the hot topless wood chopping, yeti, sky cowboy most of all. ;)

Slow build but got me hooked
This book seemed a bit slow and full of details at the start, but as the book went on I realised it just meant that I had really got to know the characters and was completely invested in the story. Not my favourite narrator, but I barely noticed that by the end. Great story!

Loved it! Laughed and cried. Love a slow burn.
This is the second book I have listened too by this author and I was not disappointed. I will be downloading another to listen too shortly.
I found it hard to stop listening and binge listened over a day. I laughed and cried at various bits and found the character development really good.
The performance was flawless with the reader doing the different voices with ease.
The only issues I had was I found it hard to differentiate between when Callia was talking to someone and when she stopped talking to that person and was thinking to herself. That was from the way it was written I think not the person reading it.
All in all a great slow burn novel and I look forward to getting more from this author.

Loved this book
Wow, couldn't stop listening to this book once Calla arrived in Alaska. The last few chapters had me in tears, and then ready to listen to book two. I love how K A Tucker finishes a novel whilst launching off into the next book at the same time.

Returned unfinished
I can’t honestly judge the story, I could only listen to the first 30 minutes. I couldn’t listen to the shrill voice, and poor reading, of the narrator.
