Summary

A killer flees the scene of a homicide at a prestigious Manhattan music school and locks himself in a classroom. Within minutes the police have him surrounded. Then a scream rings out, followed by a gunshot. The police break down the door. The room is empty.

Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs are brought in to investigate. For the ambitious Sachs, solving the case could earn her a promotion. For the quadriplegic Rhyme, it means relying on his protégé to ferret out a master illusionist they've dubbed 'the conjurer', who baits them with murders that become more diabolical with each crime.

As the fatalities rise and the minutes tick down, the pair must move beyond the smoke and mirrors to prevent a terrifying act of vengeance that could become the greatest vanishing act of all.

Awful narration

Really annoying narration as if droned, Metallic and grating! ruined my guilty pleasure of a j Deaver tale. I had to turn off and go looking for the paper version.

This was so bad

I really didn't enjoy this book at all, the story was so off the wall unbelievable that I found myself shaking my head and uttering contempt for the author..
read well as always, but I mean seriously, avoid this or be prepared for tutting and eye rolling

Terrible

The first half of the book was okay. Unfortunately the 2nd half was dreadful. I enjoyed the first 3 Jeffery Deaver books with Rhythm but they just got worse. Always last second save. Characters just becoming more annoying a Amelia’s character is just unbelievable, made out to be the ultimate policewoman.

Last book I will be reading in this series

Very twisty plot

Jeff Harding knows no equal he makes every book amazing! This story was quite complex and had a very twisty plot based upon magic sleight of hand so, at times tricky to keep up.

Gripping.

A story line with a great blend of criminal and theatrical aspects. Many twists and sub plots. Jeff Harding's narration is spot on.

More twists than a snakes backbone

Aww, not again (and it never gets corny) just when you think it's all over, it happens again.

A masterclass in plot manipulation

This story has a twist at every turn, a masterful plot that keeps you guessing until the last page. Just when you think you’ve got it, Mr Deaver skilfully turns the tables to one devious twist after another. A most enjoyable read.
