Summary

SUNDAY TIMES NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER

The brilliant and provocative new book from one of the world’s foremost political writers

‘The anti-Western revisionists have been out in force in recent years. It is high time that we revise them in turn…’

In The War on the West, international bestselling author Douglas Murray asks: if the history of humankind is one of slavery, conquest, prejudice, genocide and exploitation, why are only Western nations taking the blame for it?

It’s become perfectly acceptable to celebrate the contributions of non-Western cultures, but discussing their flaws and crimes is called hate speech. What’s more it has become acceptable to discuss the flaws and crimes of Western culture, but celebrating their contributions is also called hate speech. Some of this is a much-needed reckoning; however, some is part of a larger international attack on reason, democracy, science, progress and the citizens of the West by dishonest scholars, hatemongers, hostile nations and human-rights abusers hoping to distract from their ongoing villainy.

In The War on the West, Douglas Murray shows the ways in which many well-meaning people have been lured into polarisation by lies, and shows how far the world’s most crucial political debates have been hijacked across Europe and America. Propelled by an incisive deconstruction of inconsistent arguments and hypocritical activism, The War on the West is an essential and urgent polemic that cements Murray’s status as one of the world’s foremost political writers.

This is excellent

I did not think he could top his previous two books but he has! This is a brilliant , beautifully written critique of critical race theory, anti-white racism and the self-flagellation that only goes on in the West. And even though I felt angry quite a few times while listening, he writes with such an incisive wit, that I also had a few laughs as well.

Douglas Murray for PM

I was minded to think much of this book before I read it, as usual Murray has surpassed my expectations.
The conclusion sums it up for me and I shan't spoil anything here.
I am minded to think that the west needs to pursue an aggressive isolationist stance now. As much as the conclusion wishes for a world of peaceful understanding and acceptance, the chapters before have highlighted in words what I feel already far too well.
We are beset with bad faith actors, entities, countries and continents.

Ruthlessly Honest.

I genuinely fear for the future if this madness continues. Where will this all end?

Facts and Truth trump idiotic ideology

Douglas Murray writes and reads in a class of his own. The clarity of his thinking and expression is like breathing fresh, crisp air after having your head stuck in a putrid bin of rotting food. Everyone should listen to Murray. Everyone. And I would like to see him take on anyone who tried to tell him his book is 'wrong', 'racist', 'unconsciously biased' or whatever the day's new expression happens to be. Just brilliant.

Viva the West and all it’s traditions!

An eloquent argument for why we in the West need to acknowledge what we do well and not allow the few to shame us into believing we are unique in our imperfections. Ultimately, we are all human and are equal in our abilities to love and hate, be generous and wicked and to blame others for our own failures in life!

The truth makes a lot of people uncomfortable

1. I don't know what 'the West' actually means, unless it means societies that come from the Greco-Roman tradition, by way of the Enlightenment.

2. I don't know what 'white men' means, just as I don't understand what 'Asians' mean. Those are just terms for the lazy, unencumbered by the details of our realities.

3. Two elements which seldom surace in discussions of the shortcomings of the West: revenge and jealousy. This book talks about them, so it is more honest than most. I often tell my friends: if any Chinese ever talk about the Hundred Years of Humuliation, it is about nationalism and revenge. This is the first book I have come across which deal with that element.

So thought provoking!

Very well constructed account of what is happening to western society and culture. I would have welcomed the author going into more detail about the problems that The West has brought upon itself which has opened the door to so much perverse behaviour.
We need to move away from the West good East bad mentality but equally we should not be ripping apart many of the great strengths of western civilisation.
