Summary

Agatha Christie's shocking courtroom drama, read on audio by her grandson, Mathew Prichard.

When wealthy spinster Emily French is found murdered, suspicion falls to Leonard Vole, the man to whom she hastily bequeathed her riches before she died.

Leonard assures the investigators that his wife, Romaine Heilger, can provide them with an alibi. However, when questioned, Romaine informs the police that Vole returned home late that night covered in blood.

During the trial Ms French's housekeeper, Janet, gives damning evidence against Vole, but as Romaine's cross-examination begins, her motives come under scrutiny from the courtroom. One question remains: will justice out?

Christie Classic

I have seen several screen adaptations, but have never actually read the short story. The narration was a little monotone but understandable when you consider that it was read by Agatha Christies nephew who is not a professional actor so can be forgiven. None the less I thoroughly enjoyed this Audible book.

WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION

Another good story by Agatha Christie, earlier books and as normal there was plenty to keep you thinking

a treat for Christie fans

A classic Christie short story, pleasantly read by her grandson. Includes an excerpt from her autobiography. The narrator signed off with "Thank you for listening" and I really wanted to shake his hand and say "Thank you for reading!" I think any fan of classic mysteries will love the story and Christie fans in particular should enjoy the recording.

Great story.

I love a RR , but the narration was very flat and uninspiring- probably why actors etc do this the best. Not everyone can read aloud in a way that brings a tale to life.

Shame about narration

The Story is amazing as always with Agatha but unfortunately the narrator is terrible and manages to turn what should be a great courtroom piece into something dull and boring. So pleased that I already know the story or I would have thought it rubbish from his telling of it. Very disappointed.

So close to her speaking it

I was amazed Matthew would do a reading, this is a reading that could have been Christie herself reading it and that bonus information quite the cherry on top.
Witness is a underrated story, it’s a young Christie writing with her mind and it works so well. With the play and the Screen adaptations there is additions that go just as well and every version an joy

Awful narration

I adore Agatha Christie but I'm afraid this was really quite bad. The narration was awful. Dull and wooden with more than a few mispronounced words. A real shame.
