About this listen

“You have no idea what you are yet, Hadrack, but someday you will, and on that day the world itself will tremble.” (Einhard, Sword of the King)

A year has passed since the Piths captured the Gander garrison at Gasterny. A year in which an unexpected and unwanted truce has been declared between the two nations. For Hadrack of Corwick, now 18 and a scarred veteran of battle, the waiting has become intolerable. Caught between his need to fulfill his vow to his murdered family and his sworn oath to the man who freed him, Hadrack can only sit back in growing frustration as he waits impatiently for a war that will not come. Then one morning while out on patrol in the forests behind the garrison, Hadrack makes a grisly discovery that sets off a chain of events that will change the lives of everyone he knows. The war Hadrack has been wishing for has finally come to Gasterny, but, as he will soon come to realize, sometimes, you have to be careful what you wish for.

Great series

Love the story and the ongoing action has kept me entranced. The only downside is the narrator's odd pronunciation of routine words - sounds a bit like a fake posh English accent not quite going right. Calm would be pronounced as 'cahm' not 'coam'. Makes me question why a peasant would speak like that? Quite distracting in places but not enough to spoil the story.
