Since neither Ned, nor his sisters, are willing to concede all to the Radcliffes without a fight, an old feud is rekindled.

Compelling listening
Thoroughly enjoyed listening to this novel and found myself musing on the storyline in between which is a good indication to me that it has captured my interest. I look forward to the next novel.

Engaging story set in the background of the Wars of the Roses
An enjoyable and well-presented audiobook showing a superb knowledge of the events of the Wars of the Roses. The story is entertainingly delivered and I would highly recommend this work to any fan of historical fiction. I look forward to more from Derek Birks and Mike Rogers!

Rollercoaster
This cracks on at a blistering pace. It definitely feels like the book was written to be read aloud and Mike Rogers does a great job with it. Is it me or does Ned sound a bit like Sean Bean? He's got that weary weight in his voice, but is completely different with the female characters. Great credit to writer/narrator team! It may not be history as we know it, but it really brings that age to life!

Well worth a listen.
I do enjoy a book which is based in a factual time period,but with some fictional characters,it gives the author room to embellish a story,but not too much,as he must remain within the constraints of the historical events, which makes it believable. The author did this really well in this book. I’m looking forward to the next instalment.

Action from start to finish, highly recommended!
This is the 1st book I have listened to from Derek, and I have to say it was excellent. A number of books I read take time to get started, but this book has you gripped from the very start. Great War of the Roses story, great narration, all round excellent book. I believe there are more books in this series, I look forward to reading these when they are available on audible.

Excellent
Excellent story, great action, great pace, great understanding of the setting. Highly, highly recommended!
The author seamlessly blends in their fictional characters and story with the true timeline and events of the early Wars of the Roses. The author cares and it shows.
Can't recommend this book enough!

Knights, battles, intrigue and pain! Lots and lots of pain!
Really enjoyed this book. Took me a while to get into, but then I thoroughly enjoyed it. Seemed a lot of very coincidental timing and very fast recovery from death’s door, but definitely worth listening too (and book 2 is even better!!)
Good narration and really brings out the intensity of the storyline. Female characters could be improved, but other than that, can’t complain. :)
Really hope there’s more to come!

exceptional!!
loved this book!
found it enthralling, nice to know a different story to the usual war of the Roses.
written so well it led me into that era as if i were there.
can't wait to read the next one.
and the narrator was first class.

what a captivating & powerful story
The story was brought vividly to life by the narrator, whose talents brought believable voices from different parts of the world together in such a way that transported me to those lands. Bloodshed, honour, love and family, had me gripping the edge of my seat and willing on the protagonists.
A truly well- written masterpiece, deserving of more than the star allowance I am allowed to give.
I've already begun book two and am as transfixed as ever.
