A Financial Times Best Thriller of the Year 2023

If, like Kane, you're a Denied Access Area spy for the CIA, then boundaries have no meaning. Your function is to go in, do whatever is required, and get out again - by whatever means necessary. You know when to run, when to hide - and when to shoot.

But some places don't play by the rules. Some places are too dangerous, even for a man of Kane's experience. The badlands where the borders of Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan meet are such a place - a place where violence is the only way to survive.

Kane travels there to exfiltrate a man with vital information for the safety of the West - but instead he meets an adversary who will take the world to the brink of extinction. A frightening, clever, vicious man with blood on his hands and vengeance in his heart...

‘Utterly gripping, elegantly written... most definitely worth the wait’ Observer
'Epic and immersive, new and unexpected... deep and compelling' Mail on Sunday
'Compare this with the thrillers written by Mr or Mrs Clinton, and you come away feeling that Hayes is the one who has more inside knowledge' Telegraph

Certainly not I am Pilgrim

The book was fairly enjoyable but definitely not up to the standard of it’s predecessor, it is almost in a similar vein until about halfway through, where it goes off into a completely different, sci-fi, tangent. If I am honest, quite disappointed.

Unbelievable story?

Just wasn't expecting this, but went along for the ride. certainly not your usual CIA storyline.

IT’S NOT IN THE SAME LEAGUE AS “I AM PILGRIM”

I, like so many of you, waited a very long time for this book to finally get published. After reading I Am Pilgrim, which, I enjoyed so much, I was very keen to read anything else by the author. We waited as one proposed (or notional) publication date after another came and went. It had to be worth the wait, right?
Wrong! I’m sorry, I really wanted to love this book but, I was disappointed. It’s certainly not in the same league as “I am Pilgrim”

Takes quite a cool turn

It’s my kind of book to be fair I like the concept, because the narrator reads for Jack reacher it threw me off a bit but I found it quite enjoyable

Outstanding

Well written and very well read. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The cast of characters were well named and had believable back stories.

Another terrific tale from Terry Hayes! I really enjoyed the characters and the plot. Let’s hope the next book doesn’t take as long!

Lots of action but too long

Overly long and the future sequence stretched credulity. A good yarn but not up to the standard of I am Pilgrim. Perhaps it took too long in the writing.

Brilliant story telling, plenty of twists and turns. Great narration as always by Scott Brick.

Gripping and creative thriller

Stephen King blends with Lee Child! If you’re a Reacher fan then narrator Jeff Harding will add a special dimension to this book.
Creative thriller with lots of twists and turns.
I enjoyed it very much.
