About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

A hugely charming, genuinely uplifting story that shows it's never too late for new adventures and unexpected friendship - for fans of Harold Fry, Dear Mrs Bird and The Librarian.

Meet Eve, who has departed from her 30-year career to become a Free Spirit, Sally, who has waved goodbye to her indifferent husband and two grown-up children, and Anastasia: defiantly independent narrow-boat-dweller, suddenly vulnerable as she awaits a life-saving operation.

Inexperienced and ill-equipped, Sally and Eve embark upon a journey through the canals of England, guided by the remote and unsympathetic Anastasia. As they glide gently - and not so gently - through the countryside, the eccentricities and challenges of canalboat life draw them inexorably together and a tender and unforgettable story unfolds.

Disarmingly truthful and narrated with a rare, surprising wit, Three Women and a Boat is a journey over the glorious waterways of England and into the unfathomable depths of the human heart.

likeable characters

occasional rambling bordering on boring but overall, an excellent study of characters and their surroundings.

inspiring story

I loved this story and immediately wanted to volunteer to do the same! I'd love a follow-up to find what happened next, but it would have to be a different narrator...

The narrator's woodenness, her lack of nuance and emotion, almost got the better of me and I nearly didn't finish the book. It's only because I'm print disabled and had no other choice but to listen that I did finish it - which only goes to show what a great story it is.

A heartwarming story of letting go and finding oneself through new friends, adventure, illness and canals.

I loved the story and the characters - so real. I shed a tear at the end and many smiles throughout.

Very entertaining and thoughtful

I really have enjoyed this boat, a change from the usual and desperate to know how things go, please write a sequel Ann Youngson as it needs one to know how it pans out. Helen Lloyd was outstanding on narration. The characters all come alive on the stage in the mind.
Unfortunately there are no more books on audible so I am even more eager to find three plus one women on a boat plus two men and a dog.

Thoroughly enjoyed!

Uplifting, funny and warm; a celebration of female friendship. It makes you realise that it's never too late to change direction in your life!

A wonderful distraction from everyday life

This story is amazing .a wonderful listen. With excellent characters you want to meet again. If there was to be a follow up

The narrator is great. She keeps to each character and makes them come alive

I really really really highly recommend this book .

Great read. As good as her first novel

I loved “Meet me at the Museum” (the author’s first novel). This second novel was a long time coming. It is a great story of canal boat living and brings back very happy memories of holidays in a canal boat on the Oxford Canal. The characters all have very different back stories and their future life choices are a very satisfying conclusion to the tale. Brilliantly read on audiobook.
