Summary
The eighth novel in James S. A. Corey's New York Times best-selling Expanse series - now a major television series.
Thirteen hundred gates have opened to solar systems around the galaxy. But as humanity builds its interstellar empire in the alien ruins, the mysteries and threats grow deeper.
In the dead systems where gates lead to stranger things than alien planets, Elvi Okoye begins a desperate search to discover the nature of a genocide that happened before the first human beings existed and to find weapons to fight a war against forces at the edge of the imaginable. But the price of that knowledge may be higher than she can pay.
At the heart of the empire, Teresa Duarte prepares to take on the burden of her father's godlike ambition. The sociopathic scientist Paolo Cortázar and the Mephistophelian prisoner James Holden are only two of the dangers in a palace thick with intrigue, but Teresa has a mind of her own and secrets even her father, the emperor, doesn't guess.
And throughout the wide human empire, the scattered crew of the Rocinante fights a brave rear-guard action against Duarte's authoritarian regime.
Memory of the old order falls away, and a future under Laconia's eternal rule - and with it, a battle that humanity can only lose - seems more and more certain. Because against the terrors that lie between worlds, courage and ambition will not be enough....

One of the best yet
I love this series and really loved this book. Despite Holden hardly featuring the other characters were gripping and you really care what happens to them.

Read the book but still worth listening to
It’s the kind of series you get addicted to, great writing, interesting characters ( I personally love Amos best) and plenty of twists. The audiobook adds a dimension to the story , adds colour beyond the print version. Great work from the reader too

Sensational read
This is so far my favourite book of the series. We finally get to dive in the mystery of the protomolecule creators and their killers. This book is SciFi at its best, an incredible fictional story that develops marvellously and yet maintains that scientific logic throughout that always checks out. Really looking forward to the next one

Could Not Put This down!
This was simply thrilling from start to finish. I could not put it down until it was finished…. Part of me really hopes they bring back the tv show, but how they’ll get the scale and scope of this on tv I don’t know. Would go some way to making up for the Woke disaster that was Rjngs of Power!

Expanse the Eighth
The eighth and penultimate Expanse novel is well worth the wait. Some interesting new characters are introduced, and some familiar faces return from novels past; plus the usual Rocinante crew, though scattered, are all present and correct.
Much better than Persepolis Rising, you can feel the momentum building towards the finale due in book nine; which promises lots.
(I cannot say too much in this review because, trust me, you really don't want any spoilers... But I assume that if you've stuck with it for seven books already that you're going to get this one!)
So stop reading reviews and just download it already!
PS Jefferson Mays is, as always, fantastic.

What a story
This book of the series has more twists in it than a grandma who slept on the stairs. I literally could not stop listening. The deaths, the reunions, the drama. Brilliant, just brilliant.
