About this listen
The twelve-year rampage of "Missoula Mauler" Wayne Nance - and the shocking end to his murder spree
To his neighbors, Wayne Nance, a furniture mover from Missoula, Montana, appeared to be an affable, considerate, and trustworthy guy. No one knew that Nance was the "Missoula Mauler," a psychopath responsible for a series of sadistic sex slayings that rocked the idyllic town between 1974 and 1986.
Nance's only requirement for murder was accessibility - a preacher's wife, a teenage runaway, a female acquaintance, a married couple. Putting on a friendly façade, he could easily gain his victims' trust. Then, one September night, thirty-year-old Nance pushed his luck, preying on a couple who lived to tell the tale.
A true story with an incredible twist, written by former Wall Street Journal editor John Coston and complete with photos, To Kill and Kill Again reveals the disturbing compulsions of a charming serial killer who fooled everyone he knew, stumped the authorities, terrified a community, and nearly got away with it.

Terrifying to think this is real
This almost reads like fiction. It is difficult to comprehend that someone so evil and twisted could walk amongst us for over a decade doing what he did. The story was told well, it was clear who was who and 10/10 for the narrator who did not try to put on voices. If a female was speaking he just read the quote in his usual voice then added “she said”. So refreshing as often if men try to speak in a more feminine voice it really doesn’t work. An awful story told well

This book is wonderful
Even though the subject matter is impossibly grim, this book is extremely well-written and builds up the suspense beautifully. I did not look up the killer so had no idea how the story would end and I enjoyed the book more for it. Thrilled to get this book for free as I would have happily paid for it.

strangely engaging
it's never easy to follow Capote and his In Cold Blood but I was on a true crime roll so I popped this on not expecting to love it...
and I don't
but
it's a great story, told beautifully, the narrator is wonderful, he gets the story and inhabits the people and places wonderfully.
The writing flows nicely and it romps along at a good pace..
I may not have loved it but I did like it very very much.
recommended xx

It was ok
Started off strong, lost interest soon after though. Not very memorable I'm afraid. I found myself checking Wikipedia to see how it ended and if it was worth continuing.

A perfect example of great true crime!
Engrossingly told without being sensational, not prone to the Satanic Panic pitfalls that other true crime books from roughly the same time are prone to, and excellent at covering all sides of this small community's experience. Definitely worth the time for the listen!

The horror is unspeakable
I'm not sure why I wanted to listen to this true tale of the depravity of one man, curiosity? Interest? This story is well told and well narrated, but a troubling listen. I am not sorry I chose it, but it will stay with me for a long time. If you're prone to nightmares maybe give it a miss.
