About this listen
A catastrophic pandemic ravages the globe, reducing the human population to extinction levels and cleansing the world of mediocrity.
A doomsday prepper, a molecular geneticist, a journal-keeping loner, and a martial arts-trained nerd survive the disease that annihilated almost everyone else on the planet. Despite the miles between Kansas and California, Texas and Arizona, the four share a connection.
They realize that not dying was the easy part.
Now a year later, they navigate a bleak world...one without technology, without modern medicine, and without law and order. They must unify their diverse strengths not only to rebuild civilization but to battle those who would forge empires through brutality and oppression.
"There is one who would rule the world or see it burn."
Fans of Stephen King’s The Stand, Hugh Howey’s Wool series, and Markus Sakey’s Brilliance trilogy will love this novel. Intricately plotted, superbly paced, and brought to life by fully-developed protagonists, quirky supporting characters, and charming villains, the Troop of Shadows Chronicles is a tour de force. It is the unfolding story of the greatest threat humanity has ever faced, and is populated with some of the most entertaining people you’ll ever meet.

Mediocre at best
I’m afraid it started with the narration and it went down hill from there, the characters are not really believable and create very little empathy.
Please ignore any comparisons you may read between this and Stephen Kings The Stand there is none whatsoever. The rest of the series will remain unheard and unread

Mediocre at best
I really struggled with this one and ended up having to quit about a 3rd of the way through.
The book seems more like the results of you were to ask an amateur creative writing class to submit short stories based in an apocalyptic situation. It just jumps around from one dull character to another never really progressing anywhere. I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to the format the author has decided to use if any of the stories or protagonists had any endearing qualities but sadly this isn't the case.
The first warning sign for me was when one of the female characters is being chased by three would be bandits under threat of sexual assault. The woman in question somehow manages to turn around and murder two of her attackers with the ease of a special forces expert. She wounds another and for some reason in the middle of the fight decides to ponder out loud about whether or not humans are animals or not in the most awkward dialogue I've ever read. she then harnesses her inner Charles Bronson and threatens the last attacked never to return to her "turf" before sitting down with him to apply some first aid to the man who only moments before had been trying to murder her.
It's a shame and I've wasted a monthly credit on this one based on the recent food Amazon reviews.
definitely won't be finishing this one. Another to add to the ever growing pile of sloppy drivvel coming out on Kindle these days. I honestly don't know how some of this rubbish gets published
