Summary
He has a heart of ice . . . but for her, he'd burn the world.
Alex Volkov is a devil blessed with the face of an angel and cursed with a past he can't escape. Driven by a tragedy that has haunted him for most of his life, his ruthless pursuits for success and vengeance leave little room for matters of the heart.
But when he's forced to look after his best friend's sister, he starts to feel something in his chest: A crack. A melt. A fire that could end his world as he knew it.
Ava Chen is a free spirit trapped by nightmares of a childhood she can't remember. But despite her broken past, she's never stopped seeing the beauty in the world . . . including the heart beneath the icy exterior of a man she shouldn't want.
Her brother's best friend. Her neighbor. Her savior and her downfall.
Theirs is a love that was never supposed to happen—but when it does, it unleashes secrets that could destroy them both . . . and everything they hold dear.
Contains mature themes.

So disappointing 😔
Could not finish this. The female character was very childish. And with a best friend like Jules, who needs enemies, particularly as Jules is planning to be a lawyer. Alex. . .hmmmm. . .just a very unconvincing story for me. A shame as Aiden Snow is a great narrator. But even his voice could not push me to continue past chapter 4. I want my money back 😶

"and my man, thank you to my man"😂❤️
Gosh, I just love this series so much!
I can't wait to re-listen to those books all over again. 🫶🏻
Ana Huang, you're my new favorite author from this book on.
Highly recommend it! ❤️

Book Club Flop
This was our latest book club pick. Some of us read the paper version, some Kindle, some of us on Audible including myself. I was thankful of being able to increase the speed to get through it. Had it not been a book club choice I would not have finished it.
For me, the narration was the best part of it and it reminded me a little of A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St Clair which I enjoyed more.
As for the story - it seemed like "screen grabs" of various books mashed together. A little of A Touch of Darkness, It Ends With Us and Fifty Shades for example.
I couldn't warm to any of the characters and their personality styles were naive at best. The plot was unbelievable with too much going on, unsurprising twists and a princess thrown in for good measure. I found myself rolling my eyes quite a lot.
We always rate books out of 5 and this scored a Book Club 1/5 (for those who managed to finish it).

Excellent - Second listen
I’m not sure why there are some disappointed reviews but I absolutely love this book (and the series). There are so many twists and turns, this truly is one of my favourite (insert genre here) books! I like the performances more the second time. I’m not very critical over books but this one deserves LOTS of praise.

Only finished as it cost me a credit
Hated the story, it was so confusing, and events were narrated as having happened rather than described to the reader. The beginning wasn't so bad, but it got progressively more unrealistic as it went on.
Ava's internal dialogue was largely cringey and by the end she annoyed me.
There were constant one liners which were not the author's own (some were taken from films.)
Disney villain father should have been rewritten.
Friends who are a princess? Jessica rabbit and an influencer who is actually shy.
The revenge story was unnecessary.
The sex scenes were okay. Felt ill from where he put her underwear in her mouth though.
I'm still confused that anyone would follow someone around for a whole year.
Wont be reading any other books by this author but did think the narrator's were good.

Good idea, horrible execution
The ground work was set, bad boy with family issues, girl with family issues. Both different backgrounds but sadly the story is too shallow... Poor character development with every possible generic profile thrown at the filler characters. But hey, the audio guys sound amazing so bonus points to them 🤣

Disappointed
I dived into this blind! At first I was intrigued. I liked the different nationalities, i.e. Ukrainian and Chinese American which made a nice change.
Alex is the best friend of Ava's brother, Joshua. He is a delicious, grumpy, rich cool anti-hero who can basically do everything and is out for revenge.
Ava is a little innocent playing at photography and her brother asks Alex to watch over her whilst he goes on a working assignment and that's when the trouble starts!
Ava has great friends, one a 'real' princess, the other a high profile blogger and her best friend Jules who is just naughty and their banter is very cute. I loved Operation Emotion and laughed out loud at the picnic scenario.
Then all hell breaks loose and I think the author tried too hard to get all the tropes in one book. There were so many twists and turns that you are left spinning.
Then the book goes into boring downtime before it picks up again with more drama and major grovelling which I felt was unnecessary.
I always think endings are the hardest and this one just didn’t work for me. Hopefully her next book will get better and she'll find her rhythm.
Aidan Snow was delicious as Alex but Cindy Kay jarred.

Not worth reading
Just another romance which I did not particularly enjoy. Will not read another title from this author as I found it boring. Obviously not my genre.

What’s all the hype?
What a waste of a credit boring story and the readers have such mono toned voices you could fall asleep. Save your credits!

Don't bother
Spiciness = good, plot = ridiculous! Especially the last few hours. So far fetched, the characters lost all credibility. Definitely won't be reading any more in the series
