About this listen

The world is facing the greatest healthcare crisis it has ever seen. Chronic disease is shortening our lifespan, destroying our quality of life, bankrupting governments, and threatening the health of future generations. Sadly, conventional medicine, with its focus on managing symptoms, has failed to address this challenge. The result is burned-out physicians, a sicker population, and a broken healthcare system.

In Unconventional Medicine, Chris Kresser presents a plan to reverse this dangerous trend. He shows how the combination of functional medicine, an ancestral diet and lifestyle, and a collaborative practice model can create a system that better serves the needs of both patients and practitioners.

The epidemic of chronic disease can be stopped if patients and practitioners can adapt.

Useful insight into functional medicine practice

Average explanation of functional medicine. Tried to sell the concept of functional medicine rather than letting the listening come to their own conclusions based upon an effective persuasive argument.

Worth reading if you are interested in your health & the health of those around you

Clear, concise, informative description of a novel approach to healthcare, which avoids sensationalistic language or claims. Based on evidence, experience and transparent logical thought. Enjoyed it 👍🏽

Speed up X2

Really informative , definitely suggest to someone in the medical profession (I am not, so it was abit heavy) he does talk abit slow so I played it on X2 so he’d speak at the pass of a millennial YouTuber

Great ideas, shame about the execution

I really like this type of subject matter and I've been interested in the ancestral diet for years, unfortunately this book is limited in information, repetitive and the narrator's voice was droning and monotone. His method has noble goals and great ideas and I wish them the best but this is not a book I can recommend.

inspirational

This book gives me hope that we can turn things around if enough people embrace the functional medicine model. As normal citizens we all should keep asking our traditional doctors to change to this new model and insist on our politicians to embrace the concept too.

ceaseless complaining and criticism

chris has strange ability to criticize everything but his own ideas. consistently preaches about the importance of an evidence based diet, but then fails to state anything other than this loose term of an ancestral diet to back it up. its a common logical fallacy, a diet consumed by ancestors isnt necessarily optimum, they ate what they could find which is not necessarily the best

Not for me

I like the ideas of Chris Kresser and his functional medicine practice. Much of what he says I agree with whole heartedly but this book was nothing but a list of anecdotes that just paint functional medicine as a picture perfect progression in a medical practitioner's career.
Chris does say at the beginning of the book that it is intended for medical practitioners but none medical practitioners would benefit also, that was not the case for me. I wanted a book that was pragmatic and practical or a book that presented an objective opinion backed up with clear arguments. I found nothing of the sort here.
