Summary
There's no going back to Earth. The only way forward is through hell.
After the explosive events surrounding MPF6's destruction on Karkin Four, Wic and his team of daredevil operators join forces with the rebel force known as the Blood Guard. While the Phantoms desire to help relocate human refugees to safer worlds, they're forced to confront a more pressing objective: cut off the head of the beast and keep the Androchidan Empire from enslaving another world.
Wic is immediately flung into the heat of battle, driven by retaliation, a need for justice, and the need to send a message to all other deviant species who'd wish to take advantage of the innocent: don't even think about it.
However, when a convert mission goes sideways, and key Blood Guard operatives turn up missing, Phantom Team must decide just how far they're willing to go to stop an alien species from wreaking havoc in the galaxy.
Tensions mount as the empire's high command closes in for the kill. Lies spread, secrets abound, and betrayal runs like blood in the streets. Will Sir Chuck provide critical intel in time to save the team? Can Wic pull one more hat trick against a world-conquering foe?
Find out in Valley of the Dead, the fifth nail-biting, white-knuckle episode of the acclaimed Ruins of the Earth series by Christopher Hopper and J.N. Chaney.

Audio errors?
Something weird metallic with the audio. Compression artifact? Fair performance, but not as good as the previous reader.

OK so the narrator changed, still awesome
Oh how could this get better? Part of the story broke my heart but I still love the whole arc and how the books developed.
Yep the narrator changed, he did a cracking job under very very difficult circumstances and I think should be commended. Would rather the narrator change than it put more pressure on RC Bray and it take the next decade to get this book out....

A Good Continuation
An enjoyable listen, wraps up a few key plotlines and sets up some more. Looking forward to the next one. Will be interesting to see how the story pans out and if it can be done without going overboard in an attempt to keep the pace and action flowing.
Not having the same narrator for the whole series is very jarring and R.C. Bray is a very good narrator for these kinds of books. So a tough act to follow.

A monotonous marathon
Seeing the other reviews, I tried to go into this with an open mind but as the book progressed it felt like a drag just to finish.
The narrator tries his best to add some differentiation between characters, but in the end, it's just too monotonous and makes me switch off from listening.
The story isn't bad and felt like there were some good moments, but I don't feel like continuing the series anymore.
Please bring back RC Bray for the next book.

can't get into it
No Bray has killed this series for me, I just can't take to the new narrator and he's take on the characters voices. such a pity, it was so funny at times now it's flat and boring.

NO,NO,NO. Flat performance, NO Bray, NO Pay
R.C. Bray doesn't narrate this book. The performance of the new narrator is flat and lifeless. If I knew this when I purchased it. I'd have not bothered.
This series which was great until this book is now DOA. Returned it.

Flat
Massively missed rc bray as narrator. Wouldn’t have bothered. All the character development lost instantly.

The series used to make you laugh out loud till the narrator killed the remainder of the series - shame on the publisher
I have been waiting for the next instalment of ROE however I have sent this back, the narration is SO BAD that you can’t distinguish between the characters and sir Charles is meant to sound like iconic English actor which brings depth, fun and substance to the character.
The sad reality is that the narrator destroys the story and it’s simply not worth finishing as the character as well as the story is what makes ROE so great
I’m afraid that’s it for me l, I will not purchase the next book and have not finished this nor plan too it’s like being told a story by someone with a melon stuck in his throat and so slow it can take 10 mins to finish a sentence - I had to speed this up to 1.25 or I would have been dead and buried by the time the book finished.
I know RC bray had Covid and had to cut back on some of his commitments however the e author and publisher need to be more attentive to the value of a suitable narrator and u have returned this and will not purchase next book which us sooooo disappointing but honestly the narrator brings as much life to the characters as an decade old corpse
