Summary
The Cheyenne Police Department doesn't handle many murders. So when a woman is found mutilated and crucified, detective Kyle Dixon catches a case where all the evidence has long since been destroyed. Any detective would find it a difficult investigation, but to make matters worse, Dixon is paired with Ethan Baudin: a new detective in the unit who doesn't believe the law should apply to those that chase monsters.
They find that the murder is connected to a rash of fraternity rapes and the case becomes highly publicized and politically charged. As Dixon and Baudin unravel the victim's life and follow it to Cheyenne's underbelly, it leads to connections to more rapes and disappearances of young women, and to the dark tastes of the most powerful men in the city.
The case quickly begins to threaten their careers, and even their lives. Dixon and Baudin will have to decide if the backlash is worth finding out the truth, or if some deaths are better left unexplained.
Best-selling author Victor Methos has created the beginning of a new series that explores the darkness in men's souls. This isn't the typical mystery with procedures and red tape. This is about the shadows that touch all of us.

Wonderfully Dark Procedural...
OMG!!!! This newly released book by Victor Methos is a must read. His writing style has changed a few times with the last few books he's written. I think this just shows just what a talented author he is. This book was originally published in 2015. It's definitely worth a credit!
This book is an exceptional police procedural with some a couple of police detectives with their own definition of right and wrong. I should add that their perspective isn't on the sunny side of the street! But rather on the dark side.
The publisher's summary gives enough information so I don't want to spoil this book by giving away any more.
I see this is a trilogy and if not yet written I really hope they will be at some point in the not too distant future.
Patrick Zeller does an outstanding job narrating.

Amazing, it shows the true nature of us all.
Bravo,Victor Methos I rarely leave reviews , but I'd be doing everyone who loves this genre a disservice. A great albeit sad story of how far corrupt people will go to protect themselves and the like. I love Baudin, and Dixon definitely grew on me. love, lies, betrayal, cover-ups of the worst kind...this story has it all. I highly recommend. 5 stars.

It's everything others have said both good and bad
Yes, it's everything other reviewers have said both good and bad. It's predictable, graphic at times and somewhat twisted but I loved it. I love the author's writing and have read most of his books. I loved the narrator. Listened to the whole book in one sitting and was completely engaged. The dumber of the two cops was dumb, like me screaming dude cop a clue dumb, but very enjoyable and can't wait for the second book in the trilogy

Not worth the credit
It is so awful in so many ways I can't remember them all. This is the 2nd and final book I've listened to from him. I don't understand the good ratings. The premise is great. Could be a great book with a better writer. Either this author wants to be a rapist or thinks that all men are rapists at heart. One of the Main Characters is a walking contradiction. He is a lefty philosophy outlaw vegan. The other character is a typical small town cop. Neither character is the good guy and I can't imagine reading two more books about what else they can screw up in their lives while tracking down guys worse than them.
