For Samantha Miller's young fans—her 'girls'—she's everything they want to be. She's an oracle, telling them how to live their lives, how to be happy, how to find and honour their 'truth'. And her career is booming: she's just hit three million followers, her new book Chaste has gone straight to the top of the best-seller lists and she's appearing at sell-out events. Determined to speak her truth and bare all to her adoring fans, she's written an essay about her sexual awakening as a teenager, with her female best friend, Lisa.

Dublin, 7th October 2019. One day, one city, two women: Ruth and Pen. Neither known to the other, but both asking themselves the same questions: how to be with others and how, when the world doesn't seem willing to make space for them, to be with themselves? Ruth's marriage to Aidan is in crisis. Today she needs to make a choice—to stay or not to stay, to take the risk of reaching out, or to pull up the drawbridge. For teenage Pen, today is the day the words will flow and she will speak her truth to Alice, to ask for what she so desperately wants.

Yinka wants to find love. The problem is she also has a mum who thinks she's better qualified to find it for her. She also has too many aunties who frequently pray for her delivery from singledom, a preference for chicken and chips over traditional Nigerian food and a bum she's sure is far too small as a result. Oh, and the fact that she's a 31-year-old South-Londoner who doesn't believe in sex before marriage is a bit of an obstacle, too.

Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing. But it's the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute take a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant Nobel-prize-nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

But her sensible older sister showing up and sending her off to actual rehab wasn't quite part of her plan. She's only agreed to her incarceration because she's heard that rehab is wall-to-wall jacuzzis, gymnasiums and rock stars going cold turkey - plus it's about time she had a holiday.

Story
Part memoir, part commentary on masculinity, Raven Smith’s Men isn’t so much for men as about them. Raven has been trying to distil what it is about men that has kept him intrigued his whole life. It boils down to three things. Firstly, he loves them. Secondly, he can see how endlessly problematic they are. Thirdly, both these things converge in his own sense of self and his own masculinity.

Susan and Norma have been best friends for years, at first thrust together by force of circumstance (a job at The Pin Cushion, a haberdashery shop in 1990s Leicestershire) and then by force of character (neither being particularly inclined to make friends with anyone else). But now, 30 years later, faced with a husband seeking immortality and Norma out of reach on a wave of professional glory, Susan begins to wonder whether she has made the right choices about life, love, work and, most importantly, friendship.

Summary
Heart-warming and hilarious. You won’t want to miss this year’s stand-out romantic comedy.
This is a love story....
Serena Mills should be at her wedding. But she’s not.
Instead, she’s eating an ice cream sundae and drinking an obscenely large glass of wine in a Harvester off the M25.
Everyone thinks she’s gone mad.
She’s left the man everyone told her she was ‘so lucky’ to find - because Serena wants to find love. Real love. A love she deserves - not one she should just feel grateful for.
So, she escapes to the big city and sets herself a challenge: 52 weeks. 52 dates. 52 chances to find love. It should be easy, right?
A story about love, forging your own path and falling head over heels - with yourself.
Critic reviews
"Welcome to Your Life is a wonderfully fresh, funny and inspiring romcom about being bold and not compromising on the life you really want." (Cressida McLaughlin)
"Bethany Rutter’s adult debut is a piece of perfection. I loved Welcome to Your Life, not least because I'm at least 90 per cent Serena Mills. I think most women would relate to this character and will embrace her journey! Five big fat stars from me!" (Katy Little)
"The romance of my dreams! Sharp, exuberant and gorgeously written, it is a must-read for 2022." (Katie Lowe, author of The Furies and The Murder of Graham Catton)

Utterly predictable but heartwarming
This was promoted to be Bethany Rutter’s first book for the adult market. I hadn’t read any of her young adult fiction but this book seemed like a book for teenagers too.
An excellently written story, well paced, well narrated, and an easy and enjoyable listen. You could listen to this novel in one sitting when you need a rom com sort of weekend. In fact this plot line would be perfect for a film.
I had worked out what was going to happen halfway through the book though, but I thoroughly enjoyed it anyway.
