About this listen
From the best-selling author of When Things Fall Apart comes an open-hearted call for human connection, compassion, and learning to love the world just as it is during these most challenging times.
In her first new book of spiritual teachings in over seven years, Pema Chödrön offers a combination of wisdom, heartfelt reflections, and the signature mix of humor and insight that have made her a beloved figure to turn to during times of change. In an increasingly polarized world, Pema shows us how to strengthen our abilities to find common ground, even when we disagree, and influence our environment in positive ways. Sharing never before told personal stories from her remarkable life, simple and powerful everyday practices, and directly relatable advice, Pema encourages us all to become triumphant bodhisattvas - compassionate beings - in times of hardship.
Welcoming the Unwelcome includes teachings on the true meaning of karma, recognizing the basic goodness in ourselves and the people we share our lives with - even the most challenging ones, transforming adversity into opportunities for growth, and freeing ourselves from the empty and illusory labels that separate us. Pema also provides step-by-step guides to a basic sitting meditation and a compassion meditation that anyone can use to bring light to the darkness we face, wherever and whatever it may be.

A gem of an audiobook
This is hands down the best self-development audiobook I have listened to. It all makes sense. Claire Foy is a great narrator - I wish there were more collaborations between her and Pema Chodren - wisdom and easy listening combined. I have listened to this several times over, especially in the morning on my commute to work to set me up for the day. I can't rate this highly enough.

Extremely helpful
An extremely helpful book, not just for deepening Buddhist practice but for practical advice on becoming more buoyant and resilient in every day life.

A helpful book which got stronger towards the end
I have read Pema Chodron's book When Things Fall Apart sone time ago. I don't remember it well however I do remember that it was a really amazing book and that it changed my life somewhat at the time. I think I was a little disappointed with the beginning to the middle of this book as it felt as though I already knew what it was talking about. However, there was much that was really helpful in the second half of the book and I also really loved Pema speaking of her own experiences especially as an 80-year old woman. Claire's reading voice felt - to me - a little bit incongruous with the content.

Very bad choice of narrator
I SO DESPERATELY wish Pema could’ve/would’ve read this herself! As beautifully as Claire Foy’s enunciation is, her lack of understanding of the subject matter unfortunately shines through in such a way that it completely distracts me from hearing the profound wisdom behind Pemas words, and as an avid Pema fan and a decade long practitioner I of course see the irony in this(!), but alas, that doesn’t make the listening to this book any easier for me. I guess the only solution is to buy a hard copy and read it myself.

Very Disappointed
I couldn’t get passed the narrator’s reading performance, and thus sadly couldn’t listen to the words.
