Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

As any feminist who talks about the problems of girls and women will know, the first question you will ever be asked is 'But what about MEN?' After eleven years of writing bestsellers about women and dismissing this question, having been very sure that the concerns of feminism and men are very different things, Caitlin Moran realised that this wasn't quite right, and that the problems of feminism are also the problems of, yes, men.

So, what about men? Why do they only go to the doctor if their wife or girlfriend makes them? Why do they never discuss their penises with each other - but make endless jokes about their balls? What is porn doing for young men? Is their fondness for super-skinny jeans leading to an epidemic of bad mental health? Are men allowed to be sad? Are men allowed to lose? Have Men's Rights Activists confused 'power' with 'empowerment'? And is Jordan B Peterson just your mum - but with some mad theory about a lobster?

In this book, Caitlin intends to answer all this and more - because if men haven't yet answered the question 'What About Men?', it's going to be down to a busy woman to do it.

Mind opened

As a man, we want an expert to explain stuff to us. Turns out Caitlin may be one of those experts. Fact based and source driven data (real mens opinions). My eyes were opened, and thoughts provoked. Porn, lady parts, relationships, and my struggles to seek help all explored.

Would love this to be mandatory read in schools!

An amazing book celebrating men whilst confronting the dangerous impact and power of a mean minority.

Thank you for holding women to account too!

Caitlin’s best book to date

I was lucky to be able to listen to this book with my husband on a long car journey, and it enabled me to ask him questions that I have asked him many times before, but we got to laugh and chat about his life and what it’s like to be a man! I have Recommended this book to all my friends and family to read. I think they should be in schools. I think we need to know more! Fantastic narration. Wonderful Caitlin, thank you for writing this book and doing what was obviously a lot of research.

asking big questions in a light way

Interesting, well written + very entertaining. if you've enjoyed her other books, you'll enjoy this. i've already recommended it to some men who feel somewhat adrift in lad culture.

LOL

Not usually into this genre but it was a deal and the sample sounded promising.

So pleased I did as I have laughed my socks off. Lots of scenarios that I can now understand from a male point of view and so many times I have just thought…. why are men like that?

Now I need to get my late teen son to listen to this, but I have more chance of hell freezing over. However my girls will love it and so will most women.

Enjoy, but make sure you have earphones, as some of this blue toothed through the car stereo could be embarrassing to others in the vicinity.

Great book but not an answer.

Moran is awesome. If I had a choice of who to have as a friend she would undoubtedly be at the very top of the list. She is funny, articulate, brilliantly clever, wonderfully insightful and very engaging. But, as she accepts herself, she is not a man.
Whilst the book is a welcome counterpoint to contemporary culture it is ultimately lost in the sea of standard narrative that engulfs “white, straight men (and boys)” and makes them feel unfit and decidedly unwelcome in society. Ultimately all the good dogs (that weren’t ever the problem) now think they are bad dogs and all the bad dogs (that have always been the problem) weren’t ever listening to the message. The depressed and suicidal aren’t the bad dogs, they are the good dogs made to feel bad.
And as for Jordan B. We know he isn’t the answer but when no-one is on your side you aren’t going to stop listening to the one person who is speaking up on your behalf And the fact he is attacked so much just seems like another attack on us.
Wonderful book but not a solution. As a man I was hoping for a solution.

Emotional as a Man

This is a message to Caitlin.
Hi Caitlin. Thank you.
The book made me feel emotions I didn't know were dug deep down there. 26 years I've lived as a man, you're right, I was never told "Simon, this is how to be a man. A real man. A generous, brave, and loyal man." I wish I had. And the pain my father went through in his divorce, very real mental health damage, but he never cried. Not in front of me. Then his second wife died, and that's what broke him in front of me.

Men are wonderful. And I am going to celebrate that as much as I can. (Fully aware of not how to sound like an Andrew Tate, Elon Musk preaching incel)

Thank you Caitlin.
