Editor reviews

"Clever and compelling, While My Eyes Were Closed tells the story of the disappearance of a child in many different authentic voices. You feel the effect it has on all the characters, even the ones you're not sure you're supposed to feel sympathy for. This is brave story, which is touching right down to the final word. I so enjoyed this book." (Dorothy Koomson, Sunday Times top 10 best-selling author)
"A beautifully crafted novel of knife-edge suspense that held my attention to the very end. I wanted to compare the author to Gillian Flynn or Alice Sebold, but that wouldn't be right. This book is one 100 percent Linda Green, and Linda Green is bloody brilliant!" (Amanda Prowse, #1 best-selling author)
"The suspense becomes quite unbearable - and there's a final flourish in the form of a very punchy twist. A terrifyingly plausible story, that will have parents looking over their shoulders." (Sunday Mirror)

Summary

Dare you close your eyes for even a few seconds? One, two, three...

Lisa Dale shuts her eyes and counts to 100 during a game of hide-and-seek. When she opens them, her four-year-old daughter, Ella, is gone. Disappeared without a trace. The police, the media and Lisa's family all think they know who snatched Ella. But what if the person who took her isn't a stranger? What if they are convinced they are doing the right thing? And what if Lisa's little girl is in danger of disappearing forever?

haunting and exceptional

reinforces the fact one can never take one's eyes off their precious children. An excellent portrayal of a child's kidnapping. real and heartwrenching. Highly recommended. Great audio performance.

Loved it. Was almost going to leave it after the first ten minutes but it was really excellent. Well woven story. I highly recommend.

What a brilliant book

If you could sum up While My Eyes Were Closed in three words, what would they be?

Tearjerker; brilliant; masterpiece

Which scene did you most enjoy?

The end made me cry...

Any additional comments?

I have never read any of Linda Green books, but this really affected me and literally moved me to tears. Rarely do I listen to a book in one sitting but I just could not put this down.

Well-performed, gripping, but weak writing

If you could sum up While My Eyes Were Closed in three words, what would they be?

Sinister, gripping, generic

What does the narrators bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

It was very well-acted, with the voices of Muriel and Ella particularly convincing.

Any additional comments?

The writing style was quite cliche-ridden and unoriginal, although the three "narrators" worked well. A good listen to switch my head off to in the car.

Clever contemporary story

I wasn't sure about this story at the beginning but it soon had me hooked. The narration was particularly good.

Gritty and Harrowing

The story had a true feeling about it. I ended up sympathizing with the character you'd least expect. It does shy away from the gritty real life of mental health problems that may come after such a terrible thing happening. I was almost crying in some parts towards the end. Fantastically read by the narrator's. I finished this in less than a week, I was desperate to hear the story ubfold.

Good but not her best

Great story, fab narration but like most other reviews, you can't help wish this story along. Worth a go.
