About this listen
One night changes everything....
She’s an aspiring fashionista with her eyes on her career.
He’s a government official who’s married to his country.
From the moment Charlotte Bellswain and Arthur Ellison meet, their chemistry is off the charts.
Everything about them is wrong, but neither of them can resist one stolen night together.
Even if the consequences are life changing.
He warns her he’ll let her down. More than once. And that the eyes of the country are on them both.
That doesn’t stop her hoping that he might just change his ways and grow a heart.
Can a creative soul and an analytical mind put aside their differences and navigate this pregnancy together? They need to make their minds up, as time is running out....

Fun accidental pregnancy set in London!
Whitehall Baby by Laura Barnard is her latest release and has recently been released as an audiobook and I was so pleased to listen to it!
The story follows PA and aspiring fashion designer Charlotte who accidentally falls pregnant after an evening with government official Arthur.
As expected, there were miscommunications and disagreements between the MCs throughout the book and I loved the duel POV- I think it really helped to understand more about Arthur and what made him tick as he seemed unlikeable at times. I am guessing some of the woes Charlotte went through during her pregnancy are real stories in parts as they seemed so realistic and specific! I really felt for Charlotte because the pregnancy seemed horrendous at times, but fortunately her inner monologue ensured levity.
When the book was released there were so many great reviews and I really wanted to read it, but as a civil servant I was worried that I’d find plot holes when reading- I think that’s where the audio really worked for me because I could just enjoy a funny and entertaining story!
I really enjoyed the story itself and I absolutely flew through the audiobook. I enjoyed the audio narrated by Perdita Myszka very much and I think that the book works well as an audio. Being honest, I found the audio to be a little slow so be mindful that you may need to speed it up so it feels more conversational. Definitely not a criticism but more of a tip/note.
This is actually my first book by Laura (no idea how!!!), but it absolutely won’t be my last!
Thank you to the author for my gifted copy of the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Loved it
Let me start by saying I binged this audio book in less than 3 days! For me that’s super quick!
I really liked the premise of the story, although I’ve read books with the accidental pregnancy trope before, I’ve never read one quite like this! It was so refreshing reading about pregnancy this way, it wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine, it felt more genuine and real and since I had 2 less than glamorous pregnancies myself, this really related to me!
I loved the narrator of the audiobook, her expression and ability to read both points of view really complimented the story. I will say, I did have to speed up the pace to 1.5 as it was a little slow, once sped up it was more suited to my reading pace.
All in all, if you are looking for an easy to read/listen rom-com, then this is for you!

So good
This one was so different. I loved the characters even if there were many times that I wanted to shake them. There is some humour in here and its also nicely realistic. This was a really entertaining story with a really unique and enjoyable take on the accidental pregnancy trope.
This book has certainly convinced me that I need more books by Laura in my life

FAB BOOK BUT FRUSTRATING NARRATOR!!!
I loved the story, it has happened with our current prime minister. Even the fact they do a background check on Charlotte would actually happen. Saying this though it is a love story and not a political story which is why I chose to use my credit on purchasing the book.
I listened to the audio sample clip and laughed at it, so it drew me in, I wish there were more moments like that. It really does show the reality of pregnancy and everything that goes with it. Also I liked that on paper they would not work as a couple but we don't choose who we fall in love with.
Trigger Warning for anyone who has suffered bleeding in pregnancy.
This is the first Laura Bernard audio book that I have bought and listened to and I read all of it within 16 hours. I would definitely read another book by this author.
The problem with this audio book is that it is written using 2 voices Charlotte and Arthur which means 2 people should have recorded the audio. For some reason this has not actually happened leaving Perdita Myszka reading both parts and that is all kinds of wrong because she only uses 1 type of voice for both characters which got confusing at the beginning. I actually thought the synopsis was wrong and it was 2 women that were going to have a baby, so I had to re-listen to some chapters.
You really have to listen to when Perdita says "Arthur" to understand, I personally found it frustrating and I have over 140 books in my audio library and maybe found only 3 narrator 's annoying, slow🐌 and frustating.
Audible sets the narration speed at 1.00 but I always listen at the speed of 1.45, this book has the most slowest narrator I have EVER listened too. I had to up the speed to 2.50 for it to sound normal to me which is nuts!!!
Maybe it is because the narrator is new ???

ahhhh such a sweet story
I almost gave up on this early on, the narrators voice droning on just made all the characters sound whiney, even Arthur, that's the only thing that stopped me giving it 5*. the narration was too slow for me, and the gaps between chapters eerily long, Charlotte got on my nerves continually changing her mind, one minute everything was good next minute everything was bad. but I saw it through and ended up enjoying the story. the humour was great, not so keen on the shopping centre mishap 😂 too much information 😂 I think I would have enjoyed it more if I'd read the book instead of listening 🎧. not quite the ending I expected, but liked it
