Summary

As the battle against the Empire rages, a new crew of X-wing fighters risk life and machine on a daring undercover mission and emerge as the Rebel Alliance’s elite strike force.

It is Wedge Antilles’s boldest creation: a covert-action unit of X-wing fighters, its pilots drawn from the dregs of other units, castoffs and rejects being given one last chance. But before the new pilots can complete their training, the squadron’s base is attacked by former Imperial admiral Trigit and Wraith Squadron is forced to swing into action—taking over an Imperial warship and impersonating its crew.

The mission: to gain vital intelligence about Trigit’s secret weapons, to sabotage the admiral’s plans, and to lure him into an Alliance trap. However, the high-stakes gamble pits Wraith Squadron’s ragtag renegades against the Empire’s most brilliant master of guile and deception.

Are they up to the challenge?

If not, the penalty is instant death.

Excellent performance again

I do enjoy these older books having proper audiobooks done. Hopefully they carry on as they are so much better than the new ‘Disney’ books. Marc Thompson is outstanding as always

i forget how good these old x wing books are read these in the 90s and early 2000s love

these books hold their own still over 25 years later.
your man who narrates is the best one on the books, i don’t know if he’s a fan of star wars but he’s done enough of them over the years it feels like he gets it and understands the characters.

The follow up I didn't think we'd get

After the first four books audible had gone silent about one of my favourite EU book trilogies but after a long wait the wraiths are here. The dark humour and different personalities of the misfit fighter squadron and there long suffering commander are a treat to revisit as the fight against the empire continues. They have a lot of ships to steal.
Yub Yub!

Thoroughly enjoyable, with some unforgivably bad voice choices

I really enjoyed this, the effort put into the narration is amazing paired with the music and sound effects!
However, some absolute fan favourite characters have been done a real dirty with the voice/accent choices.
Most egregiously is Janson, who has been made to sound like Christian Slater doing a Snarf impression... Followed by Face (William Shatner) and Ton Phanan (bad French waiter) and Tyria (English dowager) as such a lot of the warmth and humour falls a bit flat when it's what made these novels stand out in the EU.
Narrator has done a brilliant job with Myn Donos and Piggy is OUTSTANDING
Definitely worth a listen, especially if these were some of your favourites. Looking forward to the rest of the series coming out.

My childhood, now in unabridged HD

Simply brilliant. I am so happy to see this series recorded and updated. This is pure, proper, total Star Wars.

As good as I remember it.

The best legends books had the best characters. Wraith squadron and all the x wing books are some of the best.

*THIS* is more like it - yub yub, Commander

Michael Stackpole's Rogue Squadron books were favourites of mine when I was a kid and I was excited as hell to finally get an unabridged audiobook recording of them. Unfortunately time hadn't been kind to them - books that had been such a huge deal in my teen years proved very disappointing in the cold light of day, with one-dimensional boring characters (looking at you Corran Horn) and some very lazy storytelling.

Wraith Squadron is nothing like that.

From the off we've got Aaron Allston's trademark humour and grasp of characterisation. The book is laugh-out-loud funny several times. Allston manages to introduce the twelve members of Wraith Squadron, plus a roster or enemies and allies, and every single one of them is a rounded, memorable character with flaws and complexities and depth. This is very much the Dirty Dozen in the Star Wars universe, and it works so well.

And as always, Marc Thompson's narration takes it over the top. There's no better Star Wars narrator.

I can't wait to hear the rest of the series.
