THIS IS ONE HELL OF A STORY.
IT’S JUST NOT HERS TO TELL.
When failed writer June Hayward witnesses her rival Athena Liu die in a freak accident, she sees her opportunity… and takes it.
So what if it means stealing Athena’s final manuscript?
So what if it means ‘borrowing’ her identity?
And so what if the first lie is only the beginning…
Finally, June has the fame she always deserved. But someone is about to expose her…
What happens next is entirely everyone else's fault.
‘The book that everyone is talking about’ Glamour
‘Ingenious, astute, hugely entertaining’ David Nicholls

Dark, Tense and Contemporary
The performance was amazing!! The story leaves you dreading the main character, there is no shred of doubt I do not like Juniper, but I also don’t really like Athena!
The plot and the characters were very well developed and did the correct job or remaining the same throughout the story so that the reader doesn’t grow to like them!

Spellbinding
I got really sucked into this addictive page-turner of a novel. It was only after I'd finished the novel that I began to ask myself, 'how on earth did I end up rooting for such a toxic narrator for the whole time I was reading this?' It was almost as though the narrator had cast a spell on me.
There were many plot twists and none of them were predictable. The showdown at the end took my by surprised and was an immensely very satisfying ending.
The actor who read the audiobook did a splendid job too, especially with the different voices and accents, all of which sounded natural and distinctive.

The main character is ethically revolting
This book is a really good «read». The writing is effortless and natural. The main character is striving so hard to be relevant it’s so sad it’s almost comical. But she is definitely a well written character. Since the book is so well written I had to see it through even though the main characters choices made me feel uneasy and even sick sometimes.

Searing, thought-provoking and riveting
The narration on this audiobook takes an already exceptional story to a whole new level. In a voice dripping with self-justification we hear about June’s journey from
unknown author to NYT bestseller, all via taking her dead ‘friend’s’ work and passing it off as her own. Insightful, searingly angry and so so funny and honest. Gripping.

so so intriguing!
kuang is such an incredible author and this book is amazing, too. i like how complex every character in this novel is- especially june. whilst june is most definitely an evil, racist, and entirely ignorant character, it’s interesting to see how she rationalises everything. a definite must-listen!
