About this listen
Providing an overview of the conceptual and metaphysical roots of Raja Yoga, Patañjali's Yoga Sutras is the most important text on Yoga philosophy.
Patañjali's Yoga Sutras is generally regarded as the most authoritative yoga book. This consists of a set of 196 Indian sutras ("threads") composed 1,700 years ago. Such threads or aphorisms have been collected by the Indian sage Patañjali and offer advice for a positive and purposeful existence.
The Patanjali Yoga Sutras are a complete manual for the study and practice of Raja Yoga, the direction of focus and meditation. The sutras begin with the most fundamental focus, and then move toward discipline, realization, and finally, liberation of the transcendental ego. This is now considered to be one of the most important sources of text for the art of yoga. The seminal piece in Hindu philosophy succinctly points out how the mind works and how the mind should be used to achieve emancipation.
"The entire object of yoga is to be one with yourself, to add dignity to you, to make you entire. Yoga makes you whole."
Patanjali's Yoga Sutras contain the aphorisms of practical and philosophic insight regarding the practice of Raja Yoga.
You will find a chapter with the easiest yoga exercises to start with, even if you never did Yoga before.
