Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Two friends. Ten summer trips. Their last chance to fall in love.

Twelve summers ago: Poppy and Alex meet. They hate each other and are pretty confident they'll never speak again.

Eleven summers ago: they're forced to share a ride home from college, and by the end of it, a friendship is formed. And a pact: every year, one vacation together.

Ten summers ago: Alex discovers his fear of flying on the way to Vancouver. Poppy holds his hand the whole way.

Seven summers ago: they get far too drunk and narrowly avoid getting matching tattoos in New Orleans.

Two summers ago: it all goes wrong.

This summer: Poppy asks Alex to join her on one last trip. A trip that will determine the rest of their lives.

You and Me on Vacation is a love story for fans of When Harry Met Sally and One Day. Get ready to travel the world, snort with laughter and - most of all - lose your heart to Poppy and Alex.

Predictable

It’s quite obvious from the first chapter how this is going to end. Then there’s a lot of chapters where they travel and not very much happens, and then the exact thing you think will happen, happens. And you just feel like, omg, took you long enough. There is no plot twist, no dramatic turn of events, and what happened in Croatia was a bit of an anti climax with all the build up.

Some things in the book don’t add up for me. It doesn’t feel realistic that they know each other for so long and are so obviously into each other without pursuing it, for years. Also, I have a hard time understanding Alex, his character feels inconsistent somehow. One minute he hates pretty much anything fun, like theme parties, then the next he likes karaoke and dancing in the street. I don’t know, I just couldn’t picture this person.

Another thing that annoyed me was the incessant quirkiness of the dialogue and the cutesy-ness of the narration. Like 95% of their communication was “witty” banter. It was a bit too much.

It’s ok for light entertainment, it’s inoffensive and “nice”, but a bit simple and slow. I don’t think I would have finished it if it wasn’t for a book club.

Not my Favourite!

I will start by saying that the ending left me feeling all warm on the inside which is a good thing and I really like this Author's writing.

Having said the above, I was somewhat disappointed having recently read Book Lovers which was superb.

I really loved the banter between Alex and Poppy and the author does write such dreamy heroes.

Poppy, however,  started to drive me nuts with her insecurities and it started to irritate me that they couldn't just spit it out that they were falling for each other.

The book for me just dragged on for much too long, the going backwards and forwards got irritating after a while and it felt more like a tourist guide rather than a romance novel.

The narration was excellent as ever.

LOVED it!

Absolutely loved this book from start to finish. Alex and Poppy are such lovable characters that I was routing for them right from the start.
Excellently narrated.
My favourite rom com book!

the narrator is the worst thing about this audiobook

the narrators voice sounded so robotic, like Siri, to me I almost DNFed this book. I couldn't get past the first couple chapters and I archived this title before deciding to give PWMOV another chance half a year later because I've only heard people praise Emily Henry.

narrator aside, this book is fun! If you want a light summery read I'd recommend

Great story

A real slow burn of a romance that flips between the past and the present. I know others found the moments in the past a little jarring, but I liked the way these interludes helped us to understand why Alex and Poppy took so long to find each other. And the narration is wonderful. A great actress who brought the book to life.

Good but quite a long audiobook.

A nice easy listen. Predictable but enjoyable. Nice reading voice. I think it could have been shorter but I still liked it.

12 years? Damn.!

Loved the ending!
But boring trips, and the fact that it took them over 12 years to realise…. ANYTHING…. Ludacris!
But as always, I love the authors writing.

Predictable but I loved it

The cover initially caught my eye with the bright graphic, and thought it sounded like an easy listen. I really enjoyed this book and was listening at every moment possible! Alex & Poppy were very likeable characters.
The performance by the narrator was great too. An easy listen.

Read another book

I usually love her books but found this one to be quite dull. Very disappointing.
