Difficult to stick with

I was looking forward to this book and I am sure Louise has an interesting story to tell. The problem is the monotone delivery! It sounds like Louise is reading words from cards, there is no emotion in her voice and no change of pitch etc. Maybe this is one to read rather than listen to.

Storey teller

I really enjoyed this book, but wished Louise had got someone professional to read it, as was all in same tone, with no expression, or excitement to her voice, almost like a child reading in a school play, so found it very hard to listen to.

Disappointed!

I listened to the audible version of the book, narrated by Louise.

I don't like leaving negative reviews as I appreciate the hard work, time, energy & emotion that's poured into writing a book. That being said, I'm honest and I really struggled to find something within this book that would sway my review to a more positive one.

It doesn't sit comfortably with me to state that, as when reading an autobiography, I'm being given a very personal insight into someone's life, then by reviewing their book, I'm essentially judging their life.

The book, by its very nature, is personal to the author of the autobiography and a negative review could be viewed as a personal criticism of the authors life.

My review is not a criticism of Louise's life and I sincerely don't want to hurt any feelings by me being honest. Louise felt the need to write a book. I read the book and I feel the need to leave my honest review of her book. An author has to be accepting of positive and negative reviews.

Although it was Louise's story and she read the book well, her tone sounded as if she was reading her book and not like she was having a heart-felt chat with a friend, which is what I would expect from an author narrating their own story. It lacked familiarity and a personal touch.

The book didn't flow well at all and chapters jumped back and forth through different times of her life. On a few occasions I became a little confused, wondering which situation came before another in her lifes timeline.

I don't know Louise personally. I don't base my opinions of anyone on anything other than my own personal experience with them or in the case of public figures, what is said by that person via their own book or live interview. Anything else such as tv appearances or newspaper articles can be edited, so I don't trust those platforms.

I listened to the book with a totally open mind. Having seen Louise on a few tv shows, I had a positive opinion of her and she gave me the impression that she was a nice, grounded, humble person.

The Louise I listened to the story of, was quite different to my initial opinion of her.

The impression I got from her book is that Louise isn't self confident and gets quite anxious about what other people think of her.

She appears to have a constant battle with herself and her personal insecurities, feeling the need to continually reassure herself that she is good enough and seeking that reassurance from others too.

I completely empathise with her and anyone who has anxiety.

The anxiety Louise expressed seemed real and the love she has for her children is undeniably real but everything else seemed so false.

There were times where what was being said felt contradictory and as though Louise was desperately trying to convince herself that what she was saying was true. E.g. her not being jealous of Jamie's career. It didn't feel as though she was being honest. It felt more that she was jealous of Jamie's career and that she was trying her best to convince herself and others, that she wasn't.

As the book continued along, I felt more and more that Louise was a little bitter about her divorce, despite her best efforts to state otherwise and that she was trying to portray that she feels empowered. Throughout the book, Louise gives advice to others to help empower them too but as the book was nearing the end, her advice became more annoying, felt condescending and was bordering on being self-righteous.

Two hours from the end of the book, I had lost interest.

I had heard so many times about what jobs Louise would be happy to do and it felt like she was using the book as a job application, hoping offers would come flooding in off the back of it.

I was becoming less of a fan with everything she was saying & hearing "you've got this" lots of times throughout the book, started to really iritate me.

With one hour left, I really wanted to not bother continuing to listen. I debated for a a short while whether to give up, which is something I hate doing or whether to endure the last hour, to see if anything said within that hour would change my opinion of the book. I decided to listen to the end and it didn't change my opinion. It just seemed to strengthen it.

I apologise to Louise if she reads this review, as from listening to her book, I know how much of an effect negative opinions have on her. I have to be honest though, so whilst I apologise for possibly hurting her feeling, I don't apologise for me giving my honest opinion about the book.

This book has changed my opinion of Louise and as my opinion isn't media based but based on my experience of reading a book that was written by Louise herself, it's a very surprising outcome!

Interesting

I enjoyed this book, but agree with an earlier review that she should have had a professional reader narrate it. Louise is lovely and comes across really well, but it was all in one tone, which is a shame as her story is good. I’m glad that she has survived her divorce and come out the other side.

Not great

Sorry to say I didn’t finish this. Whilst I understand it’s about some of the difficult times Louise has been through, it is fairly negative and a bit repetitive.
