  • Tarot cards has been a journey of over 30 years for me. I took a two and a half day course to learn how to read tarot and I was hooked. At the time, I wanted to learn how to read tarot because I loved having my cards read and I wanted to demystify it, and also learn how to do it for myself and others.

    Since this was a new skill, I relied heavily on learning the cards and the positions in the spread. It was a memorization game. It took many years to be able to put the stories together, and even longer to get out of my head and trust my intuition (which I still struggle with).

    Tarot has been an exciting journey in my personal life. In my professional life, I am an instructional designer, course writer and digital content creator. Needless to say, it was a matter of time before I took on the personal project of sharing how I learned to read tarot cards, which truly was building on the basics - which is the symbolism of the cards.

    Taking my experience in adult learning and course writing coupled with my passion for reading cards, I created these three minute podcasts to help card readers learn as I did. Ok... they aren't EXACTLY 3 minutes. I'm not THAT good! But I am around that 2.5 to 3.5 minute mark, with special episodes sometimes being longer. Please know there is so much more to know, but this should give a beginner some basics.

    For people that already have a familiarity with the cards, taking in the podcast may be a great way to focus on the lessons. For those that would do better with accompanying visuals, I would recommend searching for the card for viewing in the deck, on your computer or phone. I have used the Rider Waite deck to build this podcast course, because it is the deck that I learned on, and it is still my favorite tarot card deck.

    Even though I love the woo woo nature of cards, astrology and numerology, it can be confusing when discussing the technical aspects of the cards, and flip flopping in and out of the fluff makes it hard to learn a new skill. This audio course sticks to point so that a person learning can stay in their left brain of "doing" instead of "feeling". I love the fluff and the feeling piece, but for me, I needed to learn the cards before I could lean into how I felt and to incorporate the woo woo on my spiritual path. And .... we can only do so much in three minutes, in the spirit of focusing on basics to start, and repeating key messages (like the suit!) to help them stick.

Let's start with the divine meaning of the card and then its meaning when reversed. The Death card upright is often misunderstood, but it is profoundly transformative. It represents endings, beginnings, and the cycles of renewal that are necessary for growth. However, this transformative energy is stalled or resisted when the Death card appears reversed. It can suggest fear of change, clinging to the past, or avoiding necessary endings that pave the way for new opportunities. The reversed Death card often points to a reluctance to relinquish old patterns, relationships, or situations that no longer serve you. It's a reminder that while change can be uncomfortable, it's also essential for growth and renewal. So, what happens when The Death appears in a reading? When Death reversed appears in a reading, it's a signal to examine what you might resist in your life. Are there situations, relationships, or habits that you're holding onto even though they no longer serve your highest good? This card asks you to reflect on what's keeping you from embracing necessary change and to consider how releasing the old could create room for the new. It may also indicate that you're feeling afraid of or overwhelmed by transformation. The reversed Death card reminds you that change is a natural part of life and that facing it with courage and trust can lead to renewal and growth. So, what is the best way to memorize the Death card in reverse? Tying the card to a personal experience helps me remember it. For example, my reversed Death card moment is my struggle with changing my diet. My sweet tooth has always been a struggle for me. Still, for the last 10 months, I have made a reasonably consistent effort to make good choices around carby and sugary foods. I am not remotely happy about this, and have a mindset issue with feeling deprived. I am adopting recipes to try and create yummy treats that are sugar-free, but trust me, I still remember what a slice of chocolate cake with chocolate icing tastes like. So, I am a work in progress, and I associate this journey with the Death Card reversed. For example, I went to Employment Services to find out what options I had if I was laid off. I was also applying on any role I thought I had a chance with. I was selling possessions I no longer needed on Facebook Marketplace. Truly, I was acting like a loon. I was absolutely in the Hanged Man Reversed Eenergy because I was trying to take control of something that quite frankly, was out of control. The company may lay me off, or they may not. I was in a contract with a large company, and the program manager was asking someone on my team, directly, to do something that would have gotten them fired. I will not go into the details, but it was indeed a bold ask, and this was a young person, who was working the second contract of their career. What makes this a Justice Reversed is that I had to advocate for fairness for this team member in a very unfair situation. Sadly, Justice was not served for this program manager, but the team member was not put in harm's way by executing the request, which could have been damaging to her and her career at a very young age.That's all for today's Justice Card Reversed episode. How to start with the basics!

I love this podcast. I pull a tarot card each day for guidance and then listen to this. I agree with her that the first steps is the symbols on the card. She is very good at explaining the overall card. love it. so glad I found this podcast! Thank you
