Jacob Whitlock is a young drifter who carries his troubling childhood with him everywhere he goes. Having run away from home before he turned 18, he was a young man who was trying to find his place in life with no guidance or support along the way. Jacob soon came to find out that there is a hotel in the desert town of Tonopah, Nevada that is offering people a free room, meals, and pay to anyone who would come to work for them. The young drifter then embarks on a journey to be one of the first to make it to the hotel to get a job.

It’s the first man made satellite that has successfully entered orbit, triggering the Space Race between the United States and the USSR. Countries from around the world fill their tabloids with news related to the success of the Soviet scientists, dubbing the event as a “modern marvel of scientific ingenuity”.

Angela Brown had enjoyed her life as a wife. She works full-time Monday through Friday and is home for the weekends. She had success in school and success in her career. One day, though, her life is turned upside down. Her husband, Todd, leaves her for someone younger. Angela is crushed, with feelings of helplessness and uncertainty. Angela decides that she needs to regain her independence and establish herself as a self-sufficient adult without the help of a spouse or anyone else in her life.

The Caribbean, 1718. A time when some of the most feared pirates during the Golden Age of Piracy sailed the seas. Plundering, murdering, stealing from cargo ships, slave trading, and attacking naval ships. There is a living to be made from these illicit activities that make life for merchants and governments problematic. Having left Europe, a young aspiring pirate captain named William Teach sails to Charleston on a slave trader ship, hoping to make a new life for himself.

Matt and Christina Carter live an extremely busy life as a young married couple in Olympia, Washington. Barely having any time for one another, both find themselves in career paths that push them further away from one another, until an auto accident leaves Matt paralyzed from the waist down and in a wheelchair. Realizing they need to make changes in their lives to keep their marriage alive, the couple choose to move out of the bigger city and into a cabin in the heavily wooded area of Elwha, Washington.
