Story
This book is a collection of Gibran's words on how to live. Here are his thoughts on what it means to live in community and solitude and what gives life meaning, along with his often prescient views on government, organized religion, wealth, and commerce. Gibran's sensibility feels contemporary. He did not recognize any ultimate authority outside of the human soul: "It were wiser to speak less of God, whom we cannot understand and more of each other, whom we may understand."

Story
Gibran's Jesus: The Son of Man is a portrayal of Christ through the eyes of His contemporaries - men and women who knew him as an enemy, friend, teacher, and Son.
The characters, including Mary Magdalen, Simon Peter, Pontius Pilate, and Barabbas are brought to life against the social, political, and religious realities of Palestine and Rome at that period.

Story
Kahlil Gibran's aphorisms, stories, and poetry on a theme remain among some of those best known to Western readers. His views, however, extend beyond the most-quoted "greeting card" sayings to a wide realm of human emotions and relationships - passion, desire, idealized love, justice, friendship, and the challenges of dealing with strangers, neighbors, and enemies. This little book captures love and life in all of their complexities and nuances.

Story
First published in the 1920s, The Prophet became the bible of 1960s culture and was credited with founding the New Age movement, yet it still continues to inspire people around the world today. A hugely influential guide to living, Gibran's Prophet speaks of many things central to daily life: love, marriage, death, beauty, passion, eating, work and play. The spiritual message he imparts, of finding divinity through love, blends Eastern mysticism, religious faith and philosophy with simple, comprehensible advice.

Aged 18, he falls deeply in love with Selma, the only daughter of family friend and hugely respected local businessman Farris Karamy. However, Selma soon becomes betrothed to Mansour Bey Galib, the nephew of the powerful Bishop Bulos Galib, who has one eye on the Karamy family fortune. Story

Story
The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran is one of the world’s most beloved books on philosophy and enlightenment. We hope that by repeated listening to the story, you gain wisdom and insight, as well as mastery of a foreign language. We recommend you use the version of the story that leads with your native language, so you hear each sentence in your native language, followed by the language you are learning. For example, if you are a native English speaker learning Spanish, then you would use the English and Spanish edition.

Gibran considered The Prophet his greatest achievement. He said: "I think I've never been without The Prophet since I first conceived it in Mount Lebanon. It seems to have been a part of me....I kept the manuscript four years before I delivered it over to my publisher because I wanted to be sure, I wanted to be very sure, that every word of it was the very best I had to offer."

Story
Lynch mobs, chain gangs, and popular views of black Southern criminals that defined the Jim Crow South are well known. We know less about the role of the urban North in shaping views of race and crime in American society. Chronicling the emergence of deeply embedded notions of black people as a dangerous race of criminals by explicit contrast to working-class whites and European immigrants, this fascinating book reveals the influence such ideas have had on urban development and social policies.

Story
Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931) was a Lebanese American of Assyrian descent, an artist, poet and writer. He was born Gibran Khalil Gibran in Lebanon (at the time a Syrian Province of the Ottoman Empire) and spent much of his productive life in the United States. While most of Gibran's early writings were in Syriac and Arabic, most of his work published after 1918 was in English. Gibran also took part in the New York Pen League, also known as the "immigrant poets" (al-mahjar), alongside other important Lebanese American authors.
