Summary

Escape to the country this Christmas in this feel-good favourite from best seller Veronica Henry.

Homemade mulled wine, freshly baked mince pies and plenty of Christmas cheer....

It's the most wonderful time of the year, they say. And in the little Cotswolds village of Honeycote, the festive season looks set to bring people more than a few surprises under the tree.

As Lucy Liddiard plans the festive lunch for her nearest and dearest, she has little idea of the dramas about to play out before the crackers are pulled and the corks popped. She knows the family brewery, Honeycote Ales, has seen better days. She knows her husband, Mickey, is an incorrigible flirt. But does she realise how close both are edging towards disaster?

As the nights draw in, garlands deck the halls and the carols ring out, there are secrets and lies, love and lust all waiting to be unwrapped.

Welcome to Honeycote, and a Christmas no-one will ever forget.

Irresistibly good fun and bursting with heart, A Country Christmas is the first book in the Honeycote trio, followed by A Country Life and A Country Wedding. Each can be listened to as a standalone, or they can be listened to as a series.

This book was originally published in print, ebook and audiobook formats as Honeycote.

Not my favourite Veronica H

I have loved all of VH’s books to date and particularly the Beach Hut pair. But this time I didn’t enjoy the book nearly as much. There was not one character that I took a liking to at - no one that i rooted for. They all had their good bits and their bad bits. Hard to enjoy when there was no clear villain or under dog. A so so story.

Great story, grabbed my attention from beginning t

If you could sum up Honeycote in three words, what would they be?

Sorry it's finished.

What did you like best about this story?

A story about family life, good characters with interesting backgrounds

Which character – as performed by Rachel Atkins – was your favourite?

Lucy, but all the characters are interesting and turn out differently from what you presume them to be in the beginning

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes it was unlike others I have read recently, I listened to it. Over a period of about 48 hours.

Any additional comments?

The narrator has a very relaxing voice, easy to listen to. The story keeps you wanting to know what happens next, it is one of those books that leaves you wanting more even when you have finished it.

Not Christmassy at all

The actual story is ok , but this is NOT as advertized, a christmas book ! There are no mince pies or christmas cheer, actually the family have a pretty dismal christmas and doesn’t occur until about half way through the book and is over and done with rather quickly . Disapointed, I almost feel like asking for my money back

Who’s in who’s bed

A story that jumps from one affair to another and is therefore fairly predictable, however as usual with Veronica it’s very cleverly written and drawn to a satisfactory close

Enjoyable family saga

Where does Honeycote rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I enjoy family sagas with interesting characters - and Honeycote is definitely one of my favourites. It was a story that I wasn't ready to finish - I wanted to continue finding out about the lives of the 'people' I got to know!

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked Lucy and James - there was more softness with them than most of the other adults!

What does Rachel Atkins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Rachel read the story well and her intonation made it easy to understand that characters and their motivation

Any additional comments?

Well worth reading/listening to!

A nice winter story

I like to snuggle up with a book during the Christmas holidays and that how I ended up picking Honeycote. I really liked it, someone remarked they thought it was clear from the first chapters where the story would lead but I don't agree, there were many small storylines and plots. If you like the Beach Hut you'll probably like this although it leaves a little more open endings.
The one thing I did thought strange were some very explicit sexual descriptions which I suppose could put some readers off but they are not very frequent.
Not Henry's best work but enjoyable nonetheless.
