About this listen

Looking for a good clean murder mystery?

Meet Rachel Prince, a newly qualified police constable trying to hold it together after being ditched by her fiancé.

Rachel's best friend, Sarah, suggests that she needs a break and what better way to relax than a Mediterranean cruise? Sarah works as a nurse on the cruise ship and they plan to enjoy all the luxuries of cruising. At least they would do if Sarah ever got any time away from the medical centre.

Rachel makes friends with a bereaved, elderly woman and an attractive Italian but it's not long before she is convinced that something sinister is going on. There is mystery and threat surrounding Lady Marjorie Snellthorpe.

Who is the secretive Carlos and what is he up to?

Rachel finds herself in the centre of a mystery that could cost her her life, or worse still, her heart.

Has her broken engagement clouded her judgement?

Events unfold that cause her to question her sanity and when one of the passengers meets with a tragic accident, the tension grows. Rachel tries her best to relax and enjoy her holiday with her friend, but there seems to be danger around every corner. Is Marjorie in danger? Can Rachel solve the mystery even when she is in danger herself?

Easy listen, enjoyable murder mystery.

I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, plots and humor. Rachel’s story contains heartbreak, mystery, murder, intrigue and a hint of romance. Giving the listener a wonderful listening experience. Look forward to the next one.

Easy listening mystery

This is an ideal book for lovers of cosy crime mysteries. It is easy to listen to, with a simple storyline and only a few main characters.
The action takes place a cruise liner bound for the Mediterranean. The main character is Rachel, a newly appointed female police constable, who is taking a holiday following a failed relationship. Whilst on board, she befriends an old lady, and soon begins to suspect the old lady is in danger. There follows a series of suspicious events, culminating in a murder.
With the help of her old friend Sarah, who is working on board as a nurse, Rachel sets about solving the crime, ultimately placing herself in danger.
Not a fast paced page turner, but an enjoyable listen.

Awful narration, robotic, poor accents.

Narration is terrible, poor accents, sounds like an old woman when the main character is young.
The story is very very slow going....
I stuck with it due to all the great reviews for the whole series, I thought that it would definitely get better as it went along.....
Sigh but alas......another one to return.

Cosy and enjoyable

I listened to this speed of 2. The characters were likeable, the plot easy to follow and as expected but it was a really good listen and it has everything you would expect from this type of genre. Not taxing and easy to follow the plot and I would recommend this and look forward to the next in the series.

An entertaining murder mystery

There are lots of twists and turns, as well as suspects in this entertaining murder mystery. The plot goes along at a good pace and most of the characters are likeable. There is a romance element thrown in for good measure. The author did well at keeping up the mystery element in the story. I felt the narrator did well with the character voices and story and the production quality was good. I would read/listen to another book by this author and do recommend it to anyone who enjoys cosy mysteries.

A Mystery On The Ocean Waves.

This is a well written, artfully crafted and beautifully narrated mystery novel. The central characters, Rachael, a newbie cop on a vacation and Sarah, the ships nurse, are well rounded and very personable. The plot with its twists, turns and dead ends moves along at just the right pace. I was thuroughly entertained from start to finish.

Fun frolic in the sea

I loved this audio. The characters were relatable and I found the story totally engaging. I look forward to hearing/reading more of these. They are an interesting take on a murder mystery.

Loved it

What a great start to the series.
Rachel is a lovely, kind character who also happens to be a police officer with a keen sixth sense for trouble.
I loved the old lady, Marjorie, and I was hoping that everything would turn out OK for her. I'd love to see her help Rachel solve a crime in a future book.
The mystery was very good. There were a couple of red herrings and it really kept me guessing to the end.
I can't wait to read more of this series.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance reading audio copy.

Is there a murderer on board?

I have been listening to this as an audiobook whilst on a boat, watching the comings and goings of huge cruise liners, the size of blocks of flats. I've never really had much of an urge to take a cruise and the bigger these vessels get, the less likely I am to join one. I am quite happy to experience the pleasure second hand through Dawn Brookes' murder mysteries.

Rachel Price has just completed her police exams and qualified to join the force. She is also recovering from the shock of being dumped by her fiance, in favour of another woman, which has seriously damaged her self confidence. Her old school friend, Sarah, who works on board the 'Coral Queen' as a nurse, suggests that Rachel takes a break on board the ship, to unwind and relax.
She soon meets up with the elderly Lady Marjorie Snellthorpe, who is taking her first cruise alone, since the death of her husband. She also finds herself falling for a handsome Italian man, except that he is behaving very suspiciously. Rachel is not at all sure who she can trust.

I enjoyed this cozy murder mystery, assisted by the narration by Alex Lee, although her Scottish and Philippine accents were a little dodgy. Dawn Brookes does a good job of introducing us to the experience of cruising and it was interesting to get an idea of life behind the scenes. It hasn't changed my mind about joining a cruise boat, but it certainly made watching the ones near me, much more interesting.

On to book 2, Deadly Cruise.

Mystery with a carribean twist

Take a classic feeling mystery, mix in a cocktail and you have this fantastic story.

I loved the windswept and interesting locations we visited in this adventure, never sure if the people you met were really who they said they were.

The lead characters Rachel and Sarah, two old friends, I enjoyed how a cruise ship and a murder can’t come between friends

I enjoyed the exoticness of the locations , while I listened I could picture the scenes, always a sign of a well thought out book, I enjoyed the other major and minor characters

as I said a great twist on a classic who dunnit I would love there to be more of these types of stories, if anyone knows any let me know.

The narrator for this joyous cruise was Alex Lee and she does an excellent job of telling the story and making the characters come to life.

If you want a murder mystery with an exotic twist then I definitely recommend this.
