Summary

A Nearly Normal Family is the stunning psychological thriller from M. T. Edvardsson and asks what would you do if your child was suspected of murder, how far would you go to protect them? Do you want to know the truth? If you loved A. J. Finn’s The Woman in the Window or J. P. Delaney’s The Girl Before, you will love this.

Every murder case starts with a suspect. What if the suspect is your daughter? Would you believe her or the evidence against her?

The father

Believes his daughter has been framed.

The mother

Believes she is hiding something.

The daughter

Believes they have no idea what she’s truly capable of....

There are three sides to the story. And the truth will shatter this family to pieces.

Critic reviews

"It is only fitting that a story about a family told in three parts should involve more than one narrator. Emily Watson, Georgia Maguire, and Richard Armitage complement each other's depictions of a dysfunctional household that is hiding secrets. Armitage opens the story with a strong interpretation of Adam's views on his family and his faith, emphasizing the strict hold he has on his daughter. Watson and Maguire pair well together, voicing a mother and daughter who are parallel in tone yet befitting and distinctive. These narrators embody a family that is not so normal after all." Story strong. Some performance irritating.

I loved this book - at least up until the mother speaks. So much emphasis on "doing anything to keep this family together" and very odd alignment between mother and daughter's best friend. It was such a disappointment after the great start and just became irritating after a while. The conclusion became obvious to early through the mother's narration, so no real twist. Athough I listened to the end, I'd lost sympathy for the characters and quite disliked them by then. Father: possessive of daughter who is wayward and unlikeable. Mother: annoying and whining.

Really good story and performance

This book started off quite slowly, and I wasn’t sure I liked any of the characters. However, the story was intriguing enough to keep me interested and in the end I was glad I stuck with it. Having been a teenage girl myself, albeit quite some time ago, I was impressed that the author captured the arrogance, bravado, hatred of anything normal which of course is boring, and impulsiveness that I remember so well. The twist at the end was clever, although I did guess a lot of it. I recommend this audiobook if you like a slow burner. It is well worth persevering with.

Thought provoking and gripping

If you can get past the British accents reading what is clearly a translation by an American, then this is highly recommended

A Nearly Perfect Book

A wonderfully written and plotted book, great narration and a satisfying ending. I loved every minute of it and didn’t want it to end.

If you like Scandinavian crime/police procedural novels with a psychological element at the heart of the plot, then give this a try. I was hooked by the end of the first chapter.

Everyone has a nearly normal family.

I loved this book.
It is in 4 sections with different narrators and differing viewpoints and no one knows what the others know. And we don't know quite everything at the end. But we can guess.
When the first narrator finished I was shouting no because I wanted them to continue but within minutes I was enthralled by the next narrator.
I listened to this in the car and sat outside the house, not wanting to stop listening.
I would recommend this book wholeheartedly and I am now looking for more books by M.T. Edwardsson.

Great Thriller

Loved the tempo, the story full of swedish twists. Three view points keep you hooked and invested in each character.

Boring

Used a credit on this book after reading all the good reviews. Yet found it boring and kept drifting off . Not for me at all and wasted a credit . Kept going thinking something exciting was about to happen but NO !!
