North Yorkshire, 1941.

It's been two years since war broke out and the dangers of war are becoming ever more real for the Calvert-Lazenby family. With Raven Hall requisitioned as a maternity hospital, Rosina is rushed off her feet helping to care for the new young mothers and barely has the time to worry about young sergeant Harry who has been posted abroad. Until foreboding news arrives . . .

Meanwhile, against Rosina's wishes, eighteen-year-old Connie decides to leave school and move to Scarborough to train as a carpenter's apprentice, sharing a flat with her friend Stella and the mysterious Valentine. Valentine is enigmatic and Connie would love to get to know her better, but little does she know how things will get much worse for them both . . .

Nowhere is safe in wartime.

Masterful storytelling.

Set in World War II, the books feature Rosina, owner of Raven Hall, widow and mother of five and her struggle to deal with the upheavals taking place both at her family home and in the lives of her five daughters. Each book in the saga also features one of her daughters, stepping out to make their way in a war torn world. Connie, the third daughter, wilful and rebellious, about to turn eighteen, is fed up with her final year of school and itching to, "Do her bit", for the war effort. She absconds from school and obtains work in a factory via an old school friend with whom she takes up lodgings in a house belonging to the elderly and somewhat taciturn Miss T. Connie, strong and athletic, preferring games to academia, finds, to her delight, she both enjoys and has an aptitude for the carpentry work the factory specialises in. Slowly, she begins to win the respect of her colleagues, making new friends too. Amongst these new friends is the beautiful yet enigmatic, Irish woman, Val, who also has a room at Miss T's. The two soon become close friends. Connie, her confidence and skill set growing, believes that her decision to escape dreary old school was the right one. That is until an earth shattering event occurs and Connie finds herself embroiled in a darkening world of sudden death, vicious rumours and deceit.
Masterful storytelling.

Absolutely Loved The Ravenhall Saga!

All of these three books in the saga have been a brilliant story to follow. I came to the first book as it was a free book in the audible plus catalogue, and I'm so glad I did as a lovely heartwarming tale unfolded. The story centres around Rosina and her five daughters and their home of Ravenhall during World War II. Each of the three books tells the story of one of Rosina's elder daughters, Grace, Evelyn and Connie. Loved the characters so much, especially Nancy Bird, Bairstow and of course Harry! 💕 So well written and towards the end of the this book Connie's story becomes very exciting, I won't give anymore away! I have to say too that the voice of Lu Corfield is like a warm hug of hot chocolate, she has the perfect voice for these books in my opinion. Definitely recommend if you love a good story during wartime, and the kindess of such lovely people, well most, apart from Matron! 😁 Omg, the telegram from Harry in the church had me in tears! 😭 💕Thank you to Mollie Walton for beautiful writing and Lu Corfield for her beautiful voice. I am hoping that the story continues, I got the feeling at the end of this book, that it will 🤞 Definitely will be reading The Daughter's of Ironbridge next. 📚
