About this listen
During the Wars of the Roses, peace never lasts....
It is 1464. Ned Elder and his two sisters, Emma and Eleanor, have won a hard-fought peace and their feud with the Radcliffes seems long over, but one man never accepted the outcome. After three bitter years of waiting to destroy the Elders, a new ally provides him with a fresh opportunity for revenge.
When Ned is summoned to confront a Lancastrian revolt by the new king, Edward of York, he finds his enemies are not just amongst the ranks of the rebels. Branded a traitor by his own commander, the Earl of Warwick, Ned is soon a wanted man in hostile territory and the price on his head only rises when he stumbles upon a royal secret.
Meanwhile, Eleanor and Emma watch over Ned’s pregnant wife, Amelie, with only a small garrison of old men and boys to protect them. The feud may have ended, but the scars run deep for all three women and they must hold their nerve and prepare to defend themselves at any cost. A condemned man, Ned must find a way to escape his pursuers or else the whole Elder family will be destroyed.

Great 2nd instalment
As with the 1st book in the series, Fued, it is action from start to finish. Really enjoyed the story and the characters, and look forward to see what happens next for Ned Elder and his family. Bring on the next book!!

Fabulous 2nd instalment in the series
I was really gripped by this book. The pace really rattles on but the action is is easy to follow and the research is worn lightly. There's a great filmic quality to some of the scenes and I could see this making a TV series! The narration was spot on again - each character distinct and brought to life. You really feel you're living through tough times -in a good way!! Hopefully wont have to wait long for the next one!

Will there be a book 3? I hope so.
Before this series of books, I had thought that all battle scenes were very much similar, but I was so wrong. The Author depicts each bloody encounter in detail after terrible detail.
An excellent story of family, love, betrayal and loss, brought startlingly alive by the brilliant voices and voice acting of Mike Rogers.
I really hope there will be a book 3.

“You don’t have to be an evil man to do evil”
Packed with action, heroism and brimming over with intrigue, mystery and foul play!
Really well written and great characters! The dark story and bad luck that the MC experiences makes for a frustratingly great story!
Well narrated by Mike, who really gives the characters life and has great pacing and atmosphere.
The female voices could be improved slightly, but not enough to lower the enjoyment, but his accents are great.
Thoroughly enjoyed it and I really hope more get released soon!
This is my honest opinion on a free review copy.

excellent
Mike Rogers is a perfect narrator for this great book.
I love this time and history and worry if a book will keep me interested. Well no worries , was kept interested and was not disappointed in the story.
It is gripping and the brings this very blood thirsty time to life. The War of Roses is the time we are set in. Twists and turns that will keep you on your toes.

Gripping story and faithful to the period.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was hooked from the start. I was very impressed with the sense of period and attention to detail with the events and characters. (I teach the Wars of the Roses at A level and participate in fifteenth century historical re-enactments - so really appreciate the lengths to which Mr Birks has gone with his research!) The narration by Mike Rogers is excellent and he really brings out the characters and story. I look forward to further collaborations between this author and narrator! Well done all involved!
