Summary
Political conflicts on Earth erupt into open hostilities between their colonies in space, with Xenomorphs as the ultimate weapon.
On Earth, political tensions boil over between the United Americas, Union of Progressive Peoples, and Three World Empire. Conflict spreads to the outer fringes, and the UK colony of New Albion breaks with the Three World Empire. This could lead to a Colony War.
Trapped in the middle are journalist Cher Hunt, scientist Chad McLaren, and the synthetic Davis. Cher, seeking to discover who caused the death of her sister, Shy Hunt, uncovers a far bigger story. McLaren’s mission, fought alongside his wife, Amanda Ripley, is to stop the militarization of the deadliest weapon of all—the Xenomorph.
Their trail leads to a drilling facility on LV-187. Someone or something has destroyed it, killing the personnel, and the British are blamed. Colonial forces arrive, combat erupts, then both groups are overwhelmed by an alien swarm. Their only hope may lie with the Royal Marines unit known as “God’s Hammer”.

Decent but not great
Let down by poor narration, the whole thing just seems so flat and lifeless. Not up to the same standard as Cold Forge in terms of story.

loved, but sjw moments spoilt it.
I really liked this instalment. character arks were there, good ending, likeable people throughout. I especially liked Trent. would definitely recommend it!
unfortunately spoilt by the voice dreadful performance of the British cokney accents.
as a northern, I found the southern English jokes to be OK. but if you are a Londoner, you'll hate it.
along with the dreadful SJW inserted moments. that really made me happy when characters pegged it.
overall, a good addition to the aliens library 👌

A few classic references diluted in a story too big
There’s some good moments in this but for me the scale is too large. I want the basics, more xenomorphs, more tales of survival and action scenes with pulse rifles.
For once though the androids were a welcome addition, no synths are fiddling each other’s flutes here (covenant). Just a little too much going on and I found myself wanting it to end now and again.

why old english, queen's tone, and not cotney
really bad English accents, sounded like 1930s/50s I found it annoying, I haven't heard anyone talk like this other then in old movies like Oliver, I find it hard to belive that they all suddenly started taking the queen's English tone, it would be much more plausible that they would sound rough cotney

Another great listen
I can not get nough of this area of listening, the alien franchise has been in my life since I was born (im 39) and with these books being superb it'll be there for a long time.

Brit hate in space
Decent enough story. Narration a bit iffy, but the brit hate was oddly abundant.

A pretty original Alien tale...
...combined with some seriously scathing commentary on the current state of British politics. Made me guffaw a few times while listening!
While authors such as Abercrombie subtly indicate their distaste for populism in post-B-word era books in a more elaborately laid out context, with just enough real world quotes for the reader to be able to make the connection, David Barnett is not even trying to hide his distaste for the current political situation and lets it all out, using the story as a parallel for scathing political commentary. Good for you, David, that's very brave. And thanks for a good laugh - the Alien backdrop would be the last place where'd I'd look for "politicians with ruffled hair".
In addition, the story manages to avoid the usual Alien franchise pitfalls and introduces a few novel character concepts that I won't spoil here.
Thoroughly enjoyed this.

Worth a listen
A good story well narrated,
Great call backs to other parts of the alien lore from other books and the films, good pacing and not a dull moment, loved the story but I definitely would have enjoyed it more if I wasn’t English…… author has either never, met anyone from uk or just really dislikes us, the cliches and interactions between characters was really irritating and cartoonish at times but otherwise decent

Great story and expansion of the Alien Universe
I really enjoyed the story and the deepening of our hero's stories and the ever darkening motives of the superpowers but felt certain political aspects superfluous to the story and a bit cringe worthy.
Great read overall, makes me drool with much resin for the next installment!
