Summary
The legend of Tal Harrenfel has a new, dark chapter to its legacy, and its hero quests alone into the East.
Though Tal intends to end Yuldor's war himself, Garin and their companions follow closely on his heels. Elendol is in ashes, and its queen has been replaced by one sympathetic to the East. Fleeing the destruction left in his wake, Tal leaves behind all those he loves in an attempt to save them from further harm. His aim is simple: Find Yuldor and claim the Worldheart from him, no matter the cost.
But Garin and the others won't let Tal sacrifice himself so easily. Setting off in pursuit, they intend to offer what help they can. However, not all the company's aims are the same. The East is fraught with imposing challenges, formidable monsters, and dubious allies. And survival is only the beginning, for its Emperor has a scheme in mind that may throw the World off its axis....

When should you abandon a book?
So I obviously moved on to the second book after enjoying the first. Unfortunately I really regret that decision- to the extent where I kept questioning how many hours I was spending listening to this vs something else, should I just stop and write it off, but I kept going till the end. Bad decision. The plot was paper thin, the constant editorialising, glacial pacing, the repetition of phrasing and storylines, the frankly ridiculous secondary characters who offer no value and stretch the incredulity eg Roland the small child taken on a suicide mission, who they all get upset about when he might be in danger. Mythical creatures who all can be killed with a bit of sorcery every man and dog seems to be able to develop with a couple of days of mentoring. The constant use of the word mentor, mentee. Oh, it was just annoying and pants. If you don’t like it after an hour - it doesn’t get better. If you do, then fair play and stick with it.

Angst overdrive
Too much navel gazing. With main characters displaying excessive and irrational remorse.
You could literally half the book if you took it out.
Storyline enjoyable otherwise.

A good plot
Having been given the first book on a freebie I wasn't expecting that much. But it was a pleasant surprise to have some great characters that developed as the tale went on and see a story evolve into something more. A good listen

It's DAMN BRILLIANT.
From start to end.Brilliant.Narated superbly with living breathing characters. Its only shortcoming was that it ended.
I cannot convey how much I enjoyed this book ,this series.
How I wanted to help. How I wanted to go down to Hunts Hollow and journey with the motley crew.
WRITE MORE.🥸

seems to have draggedcout too long
not sure how I feel about this latest book, seems to have dragged with not much meat to the story line. I can't find book 4 on Audible but I'm not sure I'd carry on with this saga anyway.. didn't grip me although I do like the narrator.

disappointing padding hardly anything happens
really how this was made into a book I have no idea. the characters and story are great but there is just so much padding it just feels like the hobbit made into to many films. a lot of pointless stuff and really should have been a few chapters in a book not a book in itself

Something borrowed, something new
Readers of LOTR stuff, Wheel of time, Dune and Kingkiller Chronicles will recognise various schematics within this series.
My own opinion though is that there's no plagiarism, just a decent enough story backed up with a solid narration.
