Summary

ASSISTANT WANTED: Notorious, high-ranking villain seeks loyal, levelheaded assistant for unspecified office duties, supporting staff for random mayhem, terror, and other Dark Things In General. Discretion a must. Excellent benefits.

With ailing family to support, Evie Sage's employment status isn't just important, it's vital. So when a mishap with Rennedawn's most infamous Villain results in a job offer—naturally, she says yes. No job is perfect, of course, but even less so when you develop a teeny crush on your terrifying, temperamental, and undeniably hot boss. Don't find evil so attractive, Evie.

But just when she's getting used to severed heads suspended from the ceiling and the odd squish of an errant eyeball beneath her heel, Evie suspects this dungeon has a huge rat . . . and not just the literal kind. Because something rotten is growing in the kingdom of Rennedawn, and someone wants to take the Villain—and his entire nefarious empire—out.

Now Evie must not only resist drooling over her boss but also figure out exactly who is sabotaging his work . . . and ensure he makes them pay.

After all, a good job is hard to find.

Contains mature themes.

Great!

It was great, been following the author’s journey on tik tok and it definitely lived up to my expectations!
But, personally, it was better listening to it on 1.2 speed as the narrator was too slow.

From TikTok series to a brilliant book.

Loved the TikTok series and was so excited for the book. The plot is very different but the heart is there and the characters we love (Becky I'm looking at you!). But this can defo be enjoyed without having watched the series. It's fun, adult language, and definitely has some twists and turns.

It took me a while to get used to the performer however, I didn't really like her voice and almost felt it had a robotic quality to it. I know the performer is a real person but it was distracting to listen to at times. Not enough for the story to be boring or less engaging however.

The book was great but the narration was not.

The book itself was an entertaining, light, funny book. The plot twist at the end was amazing and had me on the edge of my seat. The narrator however, was too slow for my liking and I could never tell what speed to put it on because she varied so much. she also mispronounced a few words or skipped some however, I don't think I would have noticed if I wasn't reading the book alongside.

Genuinely fun and sweet

Fun and interesting characters in a world you’ll definitely want to spend more time in. Great for fans of Tamora Pierce or Gail Carson Levine

Great story, very funny but told by an expressionless Marge Simpson.

I loved this story so much I bought the book after listening to the audible version. I’m just praying there’s a different narrator for the second part. A lot of the humour was lost because of a tendency towards a Siri type monotone with a spooky touch of Marge Simpson although the narrator improved slightly over time it was still a shame.
