Big help

This is a completely brilliant book, which has helped me understand my son and how best to support him.
I would say this is a must read, for all senior school teachers and those working in health and care.

Good for HR and people who may not know much about autism.

It's ok but best suited to young people, or NTs who may not understand some of the struggles autistic people face. It promotes reflectivity on what indirect discrimination is at work, for example, having to work in a sensory anxiety-inducing environment. It is wrote by an autistic author, but it is not deep book, it is helpful for awareness but most autistic people will already know what is in the book.

Profound, illuminating, and beautifully insightful

This book by Dr Luke Beardon is an incredibly profound and in depth depiction illuminating the lesser known aspects of what it means to be autistic. Autistic voices, historically excluded, are heard loud and clear throughout making this insightful piece, absobloominlutely, a must read.

Very helpful for newly identified adult

As an adult who has come to identification throughs struggles with anxiety, the was an immensely helpful book. It has some great advice on self acceptance, sense of identity and ideas for asserting your own needs and boundaries. It would also be a great read for partners, friends and family of autistic adults.

Environmental factors

I thought this book would be about the general worrying, anxiety and panic attacks that autistics can sometimes have.
However, it was actually about the environmental factors that affect autistics and make everyday life harder for them. It read like an academic paper on these factors and felt like it was aimed more at nurotypical people and how they should improve things.

It was well written and I think if you are new to autism and/or don't have an understanding of how external factors have negative effects on your autism then this is the book for you.

If you already know loud noises are difficult to deal with, change is a struggle etc then I don't think it is as helpful.

Nice and thought-provoking

Apart from discussing ‘reasonable adjustments’, I thought this book light on content, slightly revising this opinion at the end as it is thought-provoking. Also, a lovely book, giving examples from the academic sector, well-read by the author.

Just awesome!!

As an autistic person this was a really empowering listen. There were lots of points in this book when I thought yes, that’s definitely me! If I’m honest, I maybe feel floods of adrenaline maybe 20 times per day and this is the first book I’ve read in a while where I’m understanding why! I am without doubt in a better place for listening to this book! Thank you Luke for being an amazing advocate for autistic people!

Excellent

This book is great. For me as an autistic adult it explains, validates and gives useful ideas on how anxiety can be reduced with reasonable adjustments in the environment and more understanding by others. Luke is a positive and passionate advocate and quite relaxing to listen too. I really highly recommend this book to other autistic adults , as well as those who support or work with them to help them be more empathetic and make little changes that will improve well-being.

As an adult with ASD this book was superb anyone with ASD or knows someone with ASD should read/listen to it
