Summary
I’m a bodyguard and far from ideal boyfriend material, but agreeing to this fake dating scheme might be the best bad deal I’ve ever made….
I’m a fixer. As a SEAL chief, I succeeded in impossible no-win situations. Now I’m retired and determined to improve the lives of my former military teammates through our Hollywood security firm. Plus, I get to guard intriguing people like Ambrose Sterling, creator of one of my favorite TV shows.
Of course, I want to keep Ambrose safe. When he’s attacked, I leap into action to save him and his scrappy little therapy dog.
But my good deed results in a coastal road trip with me pretending to be Ambrose’s boyfriend to keep him out of more danger.
I don’t do relationships, and I’ve never thought about dating a man before, but here I am, sizzling with every touch and dreaming about more stolen kisses.
Each night of white-hot passion brings us closer to an unbreakable bond. But I’m blue-collar, and Ambrose is Hollywood elite. I want a happy ending more than anything. Can I turn this fake boyfriend gig into the real thing, or am I just a guest star?

sweet Romance
Harley and Ambrose's story's all about self discovery, especially for Harley. It was not only a treat to watch his feelings for Ambrose grow, but also to see it dawn on him that he not only loved Ambrose, but wanted a relationship with him. Ambrose too goes from strength to strength throughout the story, he has a panic disorder which I thought Ms Albert handled realistically and sensitively. I liked how big tough Harley's soft centre was revealed in his dealings with Ambrose, they were so good for one another. I'm really enjoying this series, another plus was the characters from previous books showing up in this one. Looking forward to the next book. However, I do think that the narrator didn't really do the characters justice. I really liked the story, but didn't really feel that he brought them alive.

The best of the series so far
I love all of the books in this series, but for me, Ambrose and Harley are the best couple. I love how they’re (mostly) so honest with each other and their intimate relationship together is so refreshing as well. As always, i’ve read the book before I listened and Kirt Graves has brought the characters alive with with their amazing narration. Loved it!

Best so far in the series
Sometimes I need books that aren’t too complicated. Two people fall in love. Slowly but surely. Add some real 🔥
Kirt makes an excellent job with the characters!

Heartwarming bodyguard romance
Kirt's deep voice brings life to both MC's. I think there could be a little bit more difference between the two but overall it makes for a very enjoyable listen for a great story
Harley and Ambrose are just so adorable together, with that wonderful balance of sweetness and heat. It's a pretty low angst romance that covers several tropes - boss/employee, bodyguard, fake relationship. We also have a lovely ugly dog who's also there for anxiety support, a crazy fan base for Ambrose's TV show that turns out to be quite important to Harley for certain reasons.
These two together slowly evolve their relationship from boss and employee to fake relationship when it's thought that Harley is necessary to keep Ambrose safe when away from his niece's wedding but to go undercover as a boyfriend instead of worrying anyone. It's unsurprisingly easy for things to develop when there's forced proximity with only one bed but from there it's all their own choice. It's lovely to read them show more of their true selves to each other whilst also learning a bit more of themselves and what they want in a relationship, especially for Harley as he never saw himself in this position.
There's very little drama, mainly to do with the show that Ambrose created and writes. Harley is all about keeping him safe and wanting him to bring the show to its full potential which are excellent boyfriend qualities. The guys from A-List are unsurprisingly teasing about anything happening between the two but it's clearly said with love. Cressida, Ambrose's sister, comes across as slightly high strung but clearly wants the best for her brother and Hercules is just so lovable, easing Ambrose's anxiety and is clearly an excellent judge of character with how he reacts to Harley.
A wonderful story overall and a joy to read. I'm glad that it brought so much to the author at a time she needed it. A recommended read, along with the rest of the series, and I'm looking forward to the fourth.

Great audio & story! I loved Ambrose and his dog!
Bad Deal is such a sweet book. It’s pretty low angst and the characters are really wonderful. Ambrose has anxiety issues and has the sweetest sounding comfort dog. Hercules is a big name for such a small dog.
Harley and his firm are hired as security for an on-location set of a popular TV show. Ambrose is the show’s creator. Harley rescues Ambrose from a bad scene and they become friends. Ambrose has a crush on Harley but he knows it can’t go anywhere because Harley is straight. Then Harley agrees to be Ambrose’s fake boyfriend/date for the wedding of Ambrose’s niece and things happen. 😊
I love how Annabeth Albert wrote this sweet, fake relationship story and I especially loved that both MC’s were in their 40’s. The sexual awakening of Harley, as he realizes that he’s Pan, was done very well. Harley and Ambrose do a fairly good job of communicating with each other but nearly mess things up near the end. Harley had to get over his insecurity about not being in the same financial class as Ambrose and both of them had to get up the courage to express their true feelings for each other.
The last chapter gives us a glimpse of where Harley and Ambrose are several months down the road and I loved reading that.
As with the previous books in this series, Kirt Graves did a fantastic job performing this story.

Opposites
These characters, with their unique personalities, were interesting to picture in this setting. This is really a opposites attraction. They are so different in lifestyle, working class and in personality. Ambrose is a director whose personality is pretty neurotic. He has a dog that is his constant companion and he centers quite a big on Hercules.
Harley is a security specialist on the set of Ambrose’s show. Harley has been a seal and is very good under pressure. When Ambrose gets in a situation he can’t handle, Harley is there for him. This brings each into more than a casual greeting relationship. I found it interesting how the author addressed the possibility of them having a serious relationship. The characters personalities are what made this hold my attention til the end. I appreciate the narration by Kirt Graves. He brought the individual personality to the characters.
