Summary
It was the end of World War II. FDR's New Deal had redefined American politics. Taxes were at an all-time high. The bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki had created a fear of total annihilation. The rise of secret government agencies and sanctions on business had many watching their backs. America's sense of freedom was diminishing... and many were desperate to take that freedom back.
Among them was a great dreamer, an immigrant who'd pulled himself from the depths of poverty to become one of the wealthiest and most admired men in the world. That man was Andrew Ryan, and he believed that great men and women deserved better. So he set out to create the impossible: a utopia free from government, from censorship, and from moral restrictions on science, where what you gave was what you got. He created Rapture - the shining city below the sea. But this utopia suffered a great tragedy. This is the story of how it all came to be... and how it all ended.

A great job of explaining Rapture, it's rise and fall. Bioshock fans will love this.

Good story, awful accents
The story is really good but the narrators English accent is shockingly bad. Sounds like a bad American parody of an English accent and is genuinely difficult to listen to.

Brilliant prequel to the games
I loved this. The only negative is Jeffrey Kafer;s attempt at accents. His voice is really nice to listen to when he's not attempting to be British or Irish. Overall I love this universe and the story.

A Rapture Backstory
Great book, gives backstory to side characters from the games.
The story is more about the rising of rapture, which isn't covered as much in the games which is great.
The accents can sometimes be a little hit and miss but overall, a solid performance.

Adds some really good back story to game, characters and it's events
After listening to it I have to play bioshock again just to notice extra things and the references to the characters

Story good, but what was that reading?
I loved the story. Have always been interested in the throwback aesthetic with a Noir-esque feel, but honestly, why hire someone who quite clearly cannot do accents other than a flat American to perform characters from all over the world. It’s just awful.
His Bill and Atlas are grating and just don’t make sense and even the younger or more flamboyant characters are unlistenable

Great for fans of the game.
This well-written novel is a great addition to the story already presented in the games. It offers few surprises, but plenty of extra details, sometimes grim, sometimes heart-wrenching (reference not intended), but almost always intriguing.
The narrator is mostly competent, but I wish it had been read by someone who had at least heard the various accents allegedly attempted. The attempts here are sadly cringe-inducing and immersion-breaking. I stuck with it, but I can’t blame anyone who doesn’t.
