Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

Black Sheep is read by Natalie Simpson, star of Les Misérables.

Abigail Wendover has no time for love.

She is far too busy protecting her niece, who has fallen madly in love with a suspected fortune-hunter.

But her efforts become vastly more complicated with the arrival of Miles Calverleigh, the black sheep of his family - a reckless bachelor with a scandalous past.

Abby soon discovers that, despite successfully managing her niece's love life, she has far less control over her own unruly heart.

Bryer’s wit and humour blighted by this narration

A favourite light hearted novel blighted by a narrator who seems blind to the wit and humour of Heyer. Sorry!

Entertaining story. Annoying narration

I may have to listen to another version as the narrator was v off putting. Story was light and entertaining, different from the other Georgette Heyers I’ve read. But lovely escapism.

great story ruined by narrator

Awful narration, completely overacted. British boarding school accent, ruined some of the characters. Bring back the previous version.

Volume control ruined this story.

One of my favourite stories ruined by the sound technician. Soft voices were barely audible and, by raising the volume, damaged eardrums were a distinct possibility. choose a different editiion.

Excellent performance!

I’ve always loved this story. The reader did a fantastic job of bringing it to life.

An excellent narration of a favourite book

I love Georgette Heyer books, and although I have almost all the unabridged audio titles, I still like to find another version with a good narration - its almost like finding a new book. I thoroughly enjoyed my previous version of this, and this one is equally as good. It will be difficult to decide which to listen to next time I fancy laughing out loud at the way unconventional Miles Calverleigh ignores social rules of the day, and goes his own casual way to achieve his own desires. A very good example of life in Bath during this period.

Addicted to bridge the Heyer

My favourite reader is Philada Nash. This one was passable. Enjoyed the story all over again.

Yet another wonderful story

Georgette Heyer's stories don't get boring, not even almost 60 years after she wrote them. this is yet another example. I loved the story and thought it was delightfully read.

Penguin doesn’t seem to be able to choose the right narrators

Some of the Georgette Heyer’s, recently re-recorded, have been better than others but none of them are capable of correct pronunciation for the time. The female narrators are by far the worse. It is really disappointing that such brilliant classics should be so misrepresented. Those of us who love our Georgette Heyer’s have no choice but to accept it. Penguin has let its readers down very badly by not employing better quality control procedures. Deeply disappointed.

Poor narration

Wonderful story blighted by such an awful narration-emphases in the wrong places, mispronunciations and inappropriate voices for characters. Sad.
