Summary

A heart-pounding standalone zombie-horror from best seller RR Haywood

Henrietta Swallow may be a stunning model, but she has ambitions to be a film director. At a film premiere she tries engaging a producer about a new project...before everything goes terribly wrong.

Soon Swallow finds herself on the run amidst the full horror of the Undead. Along with a small band of survivors, and one miserable producer, Swallow must do everything just to stay alive on the blood-soaked streets.

As the Undead get more numerous, can she run, beat and hack her way out of trouble?

From RR Haywood, author of the UK's best-selling zombie-horror series, The Undead, and the international best seller, Extracted.

Very disappointed

Having enjoyed the series so far this stand alone story is a big letdown.

The characters are bizarrely one dimensional with reparative 'catch phrases'. Other than the lead character they are morons seemingly incapable of realising any danger, even whilst being attacked!
There are glimmers of the humour which made the series so enjoyable but mostly the characters are annoying or forgettable with very little actual development so it's difficult to become invested.
What you are left with is a groin smashingly frustrating experience which can't end quick enough.

On a plus the narration is very good.

Dreadful narrator.

Usual type of Haywood story. Takes a bit of time for the story to get going but good once it starts. The narrator is unable to pronounce several words (bizarrely, invalid is one of them. It is meant to describe someone who is ill yet she says that something is not valid!). Also, it sounds very stilted, as if it is a first reading, without a clue of the storyline. Quite strange to see that Rachel Hines actually studied drama!

Blooming briliant

A short slice of Undead fiction from a different perspective. It's nice to hear a female voicing a female for a change. it was a great little story that introduces you to some mainstay Undead characters before they appear in the books.

Easy bake oven

Great story! but a little hard to hear some of the characters I've come to love with different voices.
The only problem I have with this one is the audio, the first hour sounds like it was performed in a studio then the rest sounds like it was recorded on a phone in a toilet cubicle with the odd insert sounding like it was recorded on a potato in an easy bake oven.

Meh

It was listenable but there seemed to be no proper aim or long term goal to the story. I'd have liked it to be longer with perhaps a bit more of a link to the main series of the undead.

bad voice

I love, really love the undead series, bought all the audio a couple of weeks ago as an advanced birthday present to myself, they were half price so took the plunge. I read all of them in one go back in 2016 when really poorly, then read them as soon as new ones were published. just listened up to part 10 in a big stretch. this was great, the voice, all of it, the guy dan morgan I think is fantastic .I don't know if it is because I am new to audiobooks(only ever listened to the 10parts of undead to be clear) But god this is really bad, I don't like the voice, the intonation, the speed (too fast). missing something , definitively flat... I want the guy to read this. If I recall the story was not the best but entertaining enough but everything is ruined by that voice and the way it is read for me, only listened to 2 chapters so far and honestly considering returning it, will check if blood on the floor is by her, hope not
