Summary
A true story of surviving the worst and discovering the magic of everyday.
How would you live differently if life gave you a second chance?
Brian Pennie shouldn’t be alive today. His drug addiction was so bad that he was deemed too much of a risk for detox. Determined to confront his demons, he went cold turkey at home. On 8 October 2013, he was finally clean after 15 years of heroin addiction and something extraordinary happened: the world suddenly became beautiful. Given a second chance at life, he devoured every minute of it.
Bit by bit he rebuilt his world, returning to university to study neuroscience in a bid to understand the source of his suffering. In this incredibly honest and inspirational narrative, Brian tells the story of how he turned a seemingly hopeless existence into a rich and rewarding life, showing that change is always possible, no matter how stuck we feel.

A story of recovery over addiction
Narrator was good. The real voice and experience of addiction. Could have been shorter. Enjoyed.

A remarkable story and game plan for living a worthwhile life.
After seeing a before and after photo of the author - I was in disbelief that they could be the same person - and reading a couple of his articles on Quora, I was so intrigued I had to read the author's story. An important story of drifting into chronic addiction to numb an anxious mind, with a remarkable outcome. Although I've never been an addict, many parts were relatable, though quelling anxiety through inaction rather than addiction. A personal self-improvement and self-awareness guide, cunningly disguised as an autobiography. A great and original read. Highly recommend it.

Gripping
Beautifully written . Brilliantly narrated. Engaging from the first page. At times it reads like a tragedy. Other times like a poem.

Extraordinary story of recovery
The turnaround that Brian made in his time in recovery is extraordinary. Inspirational is a term we throw about, so I am reluctant to use it, but it is the most fitting. Brian tells his story with truth illustrating the twists and turns of both addiction and recovery with no veneer. It is a real skill to give detail while keeping the pace, but Brain is a master. A must-read for anyone who enjoys the story of triumph over challenge!

An ispirational story, descriptively told. Tugs at a range of emotions, I didn't want it to end.
