Summary
One of The Sunday Times's top 100 bestselling books of the past 50 years
Bridget Jones, the original singleton, is back and her life is as chaotic as ever in The Edge of Reason, the number one bestseller from Helen Fielding.
The Wilderness Years are over! But for how long?
Bridget's second diary takes us through a year that begins with man-of-her-dreams Mark Darcy (who never does the washing up) and lurches onwards through a sea of self-help books and lunatic advice from her mad friends.
Struggling with the challenges of a boyfriend-stealing beauty, an eight-foot hole in the wall and a builder obsessed with large reservoir fish, Bridget decides it's time for a spiritual epiphany. And so she departs Notting Hill for the sparkling shores of Thailand . . .
Bridget is back. V.g.
Helen Fielding's first novel, Bridget Jones's Diary, sparked a phenomenon that has seen four books, newspaper columns and the smash-hit film series Bridget Jones's Diary, The Edge of Reason, Bridget Jones's Baby, and Mad About the Boy.
'Could The Edge of Reason really be as funny as its predecessor? The answer is yes . . . Bridget, the original Singleton, is on ripping form.'– Daily Express
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason was featured in 'The 100 bestselling books of the past 50 years' published by The Sunday Times on 18/08/2024

Loved it!!
Read the first one. Enjoyed listening to this sequel just as much as reading the first one. Loved Imogen Church's voice. She is an utterly charming Bridget Jones.

So funny and heartwarming
I've watched all the movies hundreds of times but never read the books. There's usually differences between them and the same applies to Bridget Jones but that is not a bad thing. The books offer so much more depth and Imogen reads Bridget very well.
Funny and relatable - definitely a favourite!

Bridget Jones at her finest - V.Good and V.funny
Where does Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
near the very top, due to Imogen Church's narration talents.
What did you like best about this story?
its funny listening to her constant thought diahorrea of self obsession. the intimate self loathing is so a plenty you can't help laughing because it becomes comical what she double questions and obsesses about.
Which character – as performed by Imogen Church – was your favourite?
Bridget herself - especially the "oooohhhh god's", "uuurrrgggg's" and drunk bridget. Bridget is closely followed by Mark, Imogen sounds like Colin Firth playing Mark Darcy.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
If had time to yes, loved listening to it, but just couldn't dedicate that much time in one go. If could have listening in one sitting would have been even better than how superb it was in pieces.
Any additional comments?
Am gutted that Imogen hasn't done the follow up in Mad about the boy. Nothing against the current actress who is doing the narration, its just having listening to the 1st 2 books one after the other, it would have been fab to have her voice continuing in the "flow and Zen".
Imogen is an outstanding voice performer and am looking forward to listening to more of her books in the future

Enjoy this book, little different story from the film. The reader is great for the story.

A hilarious book (I had only watched the movies, but this is so much better!), and I really enjoyed the voice of Imogen Church, who really brought this book to life for me!

Fabulous!
Thoroughly enjoyed rediscovering this book. So much I had forgotten about story, having been swayed by reruns of the film. Also realised for first time it is based on Persuasion, just as the first book is based on Pride & Prejudice. Outstanding narration. Excellent value for money.

A light but funny read.
I chose this book because I had trouble sleeping and I needed to read something light and not too heavily engaging. This book is funny witty and the characters in it are a Little eccentric. Recommend this book for anybody who is seeking a light read whilst on holiday or needing to relax after work with something not too difficult to follow. I rated this book for out of five stars because some of the storyline doesn't change its course very much. Imogen The narrator is totally amazing at doing all the voices. I particularly like her voice for Magda, Mark, Rebecca, and Bridget's mum. They will surely make you laugh!
