According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655, before she exploded), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. So, the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. When the very fabric of time and space are about to be put through the wringer, in this instance by the imminent arrival of a very large and determinedly oncoming meteorite, circumstances require a very particular type of hero. Sadly, what the situation does not need is a singularly inept wizard, still recovering from the trauma of falling off the edge of the world. Equally it does not need one well-meaning tourist and his luggage, which has a mind of its own¿which is a shame, because that's all there is.

In the 'fantasy' universe of the phenomenally bestselling Discworld series, everything runs on magic and common sense. The world is flat and million-to-one chances happen nine times out of ten. Our world seems different - it runs on rules, often rather strange ones. Science is our way of finding out what those rules are. The appeal of Discworld is that it mostly makes sense, in a way that particle physics does not.

Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
The audiobook of Carpe Jugulum is narrated by Indira Varma (Game of Thrones; Luther; This Way Up). BAFTA and Golden Globe award-winning actor Bill Nighy (Love Actually; Pirates of the Caribbean; Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) reads the footnotes, and Peter Serafinowicz (Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace; Shaun of the Dead) stars as the voice of Death. Steven Cree (Outlander; A Discovery of Witches) voices the Nac Mac Feegles. Featuring a new theme tune composed by James Hannigan.
''Carpe Jugulum,' read Agnes aloud. 'That's...well, Carpe Diem is Seize the Day, so this means -'
'Go for the throat....''
Vampires have come to Lancre, but they're not what you'd expect. Sure, they drink blood and view humans as dinner, but they're modern and sophisticated. They've got style and fancy waistcoats. And they're not a bit afraid of garlic.
The Magpyr family are out of the casket and want a bite of the future. But they haven't met the neighbours yet.
Between them and Lancre stand a coven of four - Granny Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg, Magrat and young Agnes - and they don't take kindly to murderous intruders....
Carpe Jugulum is the sixth book in the Witches series, but you can listen to the Discworld novels in any order.
The first book in the Discworld series – The Colour of Magic – was published in 1983. Some elements of the Discworld universe may reflect this.

Excellent 🙂
Indira Varma's take on Granny Weatherwax approached my own mental picture of her from an unexpected direction, but hits perfection nevertheless.
Overall an excellent production of one of my favourite books.
A few notes: It's Perd-I-ta.
This is why P-er-ditax is funny. (Yes that's a different book but, lets get it right.)
The guy who does the Nac Mac Feegle is excellent, but needs to understand the sources of some of their exclamations. 'There can be only one thousand!' is a joke based on Highlander, and should be spoken with the same emphasis as 'There can be only one!'
Also 'Verra comp-lic-ated documents.' isn't quite right :/
I reckon the Death of Rats should also be voiced by Peter Serafinowicz.
What his name who does the annotations sounds as though he's reading them in his sleep. Wake up and try harder.
These are just silly niggles though.
Isn't it a shame subtle text based jokes are lost? There's no way to put across the bit where the Count substitutes 'prey' for 'pray'.
Indira Varma is perfect though, can't fault any of her voices, spot on 🙂

Just perfect
The narrator just gets better in these books. Her voices are absolutely perfect in my mind. I was very nervous about this because it's one of my favourites and previous narrators have ruined it, in my opinion. I needn't have worried, she's absolutely brilliant with it and the others in the Witches arc, and I can listen to them over and over. Bill Nighy sounds bored doing the footnotes.

Wonderful
Indira Varma's narration of the Witches of Lancre books is great. She puts so much emotion and atmosphere into the stories, and her Granny Weatherwax voice in particular is spot on. Steven Cree's Feegles are even better than Stephen Briggs's (and I never thought I would say that!). Peter Serafinowicz as Death? Hilarious, and he has the timbre to carry it off. And Bill Nighy has all the dry humour necessary to convey the footnotes, which have long been one of my favourite parts of any Discworld novel
These new recordings, in general, are a perfect tribute to the late great Pterry's works, and well worth the price of an Audible credit even if you already have the Nigel Planer/Stephen Briggs versions.

Magnificent!
These new recordings of the great man's Witches books have been magnificent.
Indira Varma reads with such perfect timing, such beautiful cadence, I will always think of her as Esme Weatherwax.
Bill Nighy reading the footnotes was like having Terry back. His tone was perfect.
Peter Serafinowicz is so perfect as Death, that is all I can say. perfect!
And in this book, Steven Cree introduces us to the Nac Mac Feegles wonderfully. The first time they spoke I felt such glee! Just amazing.
Listening has taken me back to how I felt on first reading these books. I have laughed out loud, cried. These much, much loved characters walked off the page again.
I can't thank Penguin enough for the love and care that went into these re-recordings.
Onto Small Gods now, so well selected after this introduction to Om, and then I shall await the Rincewind books, already pre-ordered.
The anticipation I have for the Watch and the Death books cannot be expressed, but there is no longer any worry that they won't be done right.

Beautifully read by Indira Varma
I enjoyed this immensely. A brilliant choice of reader. Her interpretation of the characters was excellent as well timing, pace and delivery of lines. I think I could listen to any book read by this reader.
The story I felt in places had a sort of uplifting quality. I selected this book because it was the next Pratchett and had no idea it would have such an interesting take on the subject matter. It was good to catch up with the witches again.
